A plasma display panel includes first display electrodes and second display electrodes positioned inside barriers while opposing each other. A front panel has closed-type barriers to increase fluorescent substance application area. A rear panel has stripe-type barriers to lower address voltage between the first display electrodes and address electrodes and improve emission efficiency by means of long-gap discharge. The plasma display panel uses trigger discharge during address discharge and sustain discharge to lower discharge voltage.

A plasma display device having an improved electrode structure that is capable of improving a contrast of the plasma display panel while decreasing a discharge firing voltage is provided. A plasma display panel according to an embodiment of the invention includes first and second substrates disposed opposite to each other, barrier ribs arranged in a space between the first substrate and the second substrate to define at least one discharge cell, address electrodes formed along a first direction, and display electrodes formed along a second direction intersecting the first direction. The display electrodes include bus electrodes formed extending in the second direction, expansion electrodes that extend toward the center of each discharge cell from the bus electrodes and face each other in the discharge cell with a discharge gap interposed therebetween, and auxiliary electrodes located at front ends of the expansion electrodes opposite to each other.

Plasma display panel with an improved electrode structure

The invention provides a plasma display panel having improved luminous efficiency. The improved luminous efficiency may result in part from at least the configuration and/or arrangement of facing sustain and scan electrodes. In one embodiment, the electrodes may have concave portions that are selectively formed at locators where the electrodes intersect barrier ribs that separate adjacent discharge cells of different colors. This configuration may reduce the charge distribution around the portions where the concave are formed, and may also prevent erroneous discharge from being transferred to adjacent discharge cells. The principles of the invention may be used to produce or light density PDP that increases luminous efficiency and decreases a discharge firing voltage.

Plasma display panel having specific electrode structure

A plasma display panel includes a first substrate and a second substrate that partially define a plurality of discharge cells in a space therebetween, and an electrode structure including an address electrode extending along a first direction, a dielectric layer formed on the address electrode, a first electrode extending along a second direction intersecting the first direction, and a second electrode extending along the second direction intersecting the first direction, where the first electrode and the second electrode are electrically insulated from the address electrode, and at least a portion of each of the first electrode and the second electrode is associated with each of the discharge cells. At least one of the address electrode and the dielectric layer associated with each of the discharge cells may include a first portion and a second portion. The first portion may have a first thickness along a third direction and the second portion may have a second thickness along the third direction, where the third direction intersects the first direction and the second direction. A Plasma Display Panel (PDP) having enhanced efficiency includes: first and second substrates arranged facing each other and defining a space therebetween partitioned into at least one discharge cell; a phosphor layer arranged in the at least one discharge cell; an address electrode arranged along a first direction in the space between the first and second substrates; and first and second electrodes electrically insulated from the address electrode and arranged along a second direction crossing the first direction at opposite sides of each of the at least one discharge cells in the space between the first and second substrates. At least one of the first and second electrodes includes a plurality of electrode portions that are separate from each other.

A plasma display panel comprises: first and second substrates facing each other; a plurality of barrier ribs partitioning a discharge space between the first and second substrates so as to define a plurality of discharge cells; address electrodes extending in parallel with each other and in a predetermined direction; first and second electrodes disposed on the second substrate in a direction intersecting the direction of the address electrodes, the first and second electrodes being separated from the address electrodes, the first and second electrodes being provided in correspondence with each of the discharge cells; and phosphor layers coated on the discharge cells. A plasma display panel exhibiting a reduced discharge firing voltage and/or improved luminescence efficiency is disclosed. In one embodiment, the plasma display panel includes first and second substrates facing each other with a predetermined gap such that a plurality of discharge cells are formed in a space therebetween, wherein each discharge cell comprises an address electrode elongated in a first direction, a pair of first electrodes elongated in a second direction crossing the first direction, and a pair of second electrodes elongated in a second direction, and wherein each discharge cell includes a pair of discharge spaces, the pair of first electrodes are disposed at opposite sides of the each discharge cell, and the pair of second electrodes are disposed substantially at a center of the discharge cell, between the pair of first electrodes, and parallel with each other.

Plasma display panel with enhanced luminous efficiency at a reduced discharge firing voltage

A PDP having an opposing electrode structure including first and second substrates facing each other. A space between the first and second substrates is divided into discharge cells. Address electrodes extend in a first direction between the first and second substrates, and first and second electrodes extend in a second direction intersecting the first direction while being spaced apart from the address electrodes. At least one of the address electrodes or the first and second electrodes has a protruding portion that protrudes toward the center of each discharge cell. The protruding portions help reduce the discharge gap which in turn reduces the discharge firing voltage. Expansion portions formed as parts of the first and second electrodes increase the discharge gap used by the sustain discharge and lead to an improved luminescence efficiency.

A plasma display panel (PDP) includes first and second substrates provided in opposition to one another, address electrodes formed on the first substrate, barrier ribs mounted between the first and second substrates so as to define a plurality of discharge cells, phosphor layers formed in the discharge cells, first and second electrodes formed on the second substrate, and third electrodes mounted between the first and second electrodes at positions corresponding to the discharge cells. A plasma display panel includes a first substrate, and a second substrate provided opposing the first substrate and defining a plurality of discharge cells between the first and second substrates. Phosphor layers are respectively formed in the discharge cells. Address electrodes are formed along a first direction on the first substrate, and first and second electrodes are formed adjacent to the first substrate and separated from the address electrodes. The first and second electrodes extend along a second direction that intersects the first direction, and the first and second electrodes are provided corresponding to each of the discharge cells. The plasma display panel may include a first substrate substantially paralleling an opposite second substrate across a predetermined gap, wherein the gap is divided into a discharge cell. A phosphor layer may be formed in the discharge cell. An address electrode may be formed on the first substrate to extend along a first direction. A first electrode and second electrode may be formed on the first substrate, and a degree that a portion of at least one of the first electrode or the second electrode proximate the second substrate protrudes toward a center of the discharge cell may differ from a degree that another portion of the at least one of the first electrode or the second electrode proximate the first substrate protrudes toward the center of the discharge cell.

A plasma display panel in which a sustain discharge is generated as an opposed discharge, thereby reducing a discharge firing voltage and improving efficiency. The plasma display panel includes first and second substrates. Address electrodes are formed on the first substrate in a first direction and first electrodes and second electrodes are formed in a second direction crossing the first direction. Each of the first electrodes and the second electrodes has base portions that correspond to discharge spaces of discharge cells and a crossbar portion that connects the base portions along the second direction. The base portions of the first and the second electrodes face each other across a gap in each discharge cell. The length of the portions of the base portions near the first substrate is different from that of the portions of the base portions near the second substrate in the second direction.
