A method and apparatus for recovering an estimated velocity of a mobile station in a communication system are provided. The apparatus includes a searcher for determining a Doppler shift value representing the estimated velocity of the mobile station by using a channel impulse response of a preamble signal received at a regular interval of time, a detector for determining a reference Doppler value for compensating the Doppler shift value by using correlation ratios between channel values of symbols to which data for the mobile station are allocated according to subcarriers in a data allocation field of a frame including the preamble signal, and a compensator for determining a compensated Doppler shift value by using the reference Doppler value to compensate the Doppler shift value for a folding value, wherein the folding value represents a difference between the estimated velocity and a true velocity of the mobile station.

Provided are an apparatus and method for interference cancellation in a BWA communication system. In a receiving apparatus for the interference cancellation, a preamble correlation measurer measures a preamble correlation coefficient from a preamble of a signal received signal. A data rearranger determines a block size to divide the received signal from the preamble correlation coefficient, divides the signal according to the determined block size, and rearranges the divided signals in a Space-Time coding (STC) mode. An estimate weight calculator cross-correlates the output signals of the data rearranger, rearranges the cross-correlated signals, auto-correlates the rearranged signals, and calculates an estimate weight to perform an interpolation operation. An estimate signal decoding/combining unit detects desired signals from signals estimated by the estimate weight calculator and combines the detected signals.

Apparatus and method for interference cancellation in broadband wireless access communication system

Provided is a channel estimation apparatus and method. In the channel estimation apparatus, a channel estimator performs channel estimation onto a received symbol and output a channel estimation result. The channel estimation result is stored in an estimation buffer along with a channel estimation result compensated in a preamble phase compensator. The preamble phase compensator receives a channel estimation result for pilot subcarriers of a data symbol and a preamble channel estimation result from the estimation buffer, acquires a phase rotation value between them, and compensates the preamble channel estimation result with the phase rotation value. When FCH and DL-MAP are demodulated, pilot subcarriers in the NPUSC symbol have been used to estimate the channel of the Nth PUSC symbol.

Apparatus and method for channel estimation for data demodulation in broadband wireless access system

An apparatus and method for canceling an interference signal in a broadband wireless communication system are provided. A receiver of a wireless communication system includes at least two receive antennas for receiving a target signal of a serving base station and interference signals of at least one neighbor base station; a channel estimator for estimating channels of the signals received through the receive antennas; and a detector for detecting the target signal using channel estimation values of the received signals. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce error propagation caused by the incorrect estimation and detection of the interference signal. In addition, time delay for detecting/restoring/removing the interference signal does not occur. Moreover, the increase of additional buffers can be prevented. The current symbol includes a guard interval and an effective symbol interval subsequent to the guard interval. The current symbol is windowed by overlapping the stored signal of the first interval with a signal of a second interval included in the current symbol subsequent to the previous symbol. A windowed signal is transmitted.

A method and apparatus are provided for adaptively allocating pilots in a pilot-aided channel estimation system. A multipath delay is measured between a base station (BS) and a mobile station (MS). A distribution density of pilots of a signal to be transmitted between the BS and the MS is controlled. When the multipath delay is large, the pilot distribution density is relatively raised. However, when the multipath delay is small, the pilot distribution density is relatively lowered. The pilot distribution density is adaptively controlled according to the multipath delay, such that resources are effectively utilized and throughput is improved.
