An electron gun used with a multi-media monitor with a low cathode voltage and improved focusing performance. The electron gun, which includes a cathode, a control electrode, a screen electrode, and a plurality of focusing electrodes to focus and accelerate an electron beam, is designed to satisfy the condition that a value of &#x3b2; is greater than or equal to 0.222 or a value of k is greater than or equal to 0.11, where &#x3b2;=T1/D, k=T1/L, T1 denotes a thickness of the control electrode, D denotes a diameter of an electron beam aperture of the control electrode, and L denotes the distance between a beam-entering surface of the control electrode and a beam-emitting surface of the screen electrode.

A cathode ray tube (CRT) has an electron gun including a cathode for emitting electron beams, a control electrode for controlling emission of the electron beams from the cathode, and a screen electrode for accelerating the flow of the electron beams passing the control electrode are arranged in series. In the CRT, during a scanning period, a voltage applied to at least one of the control electrode and the screen electrode changes in response to a voltage of a data signal applied to the cathode. The control electrode and screen electrode each include three mutually electrically insulated sections for independently controlling each of three electron beams passing through the electrodes.

An electron gun for a color CRT includes a triode unit including a cathode, a control electrode, and a screen electrode for emitting an electron beam, first and second auxiliary focusing electrodes sequentially installed coaxially with the triode unit, for forming auxiliary lenses, first and second focusing electrodes installed coaxially with the first and second electrodes, for forming a quadrupole lens, and a final acceleration electrode installed close to the second focusing electrode, for forming a main lens. In the electron gun, protruding portions having flat surfaces corresponding to opposite surfaces of the first and second focusing electrodes are formed on at least one of the opposite surfaces of the first and second focusing electrodes to change the profile of the electron beam by applying a dynamic focus voltage to the edge of electron beam passing holes formed in the opposite surfaces.

An electron gun for a cathode ray tube includes a triode having cathodes, a first grid and a second grid, one or more third grids through which electron beams emitted from the cathode pass, a fourth grid opposing the third grids and forming a main focus lens with the third grid, a shield cup connected to the fourth grid and supplying a high voltage to the fourth grid, and a correction grid disposed between the fourth grid and the shield cup and having R, G, and B beam through holes arranged along a line. The R and B beam through holes have openings with asymmetrical shapes that are symmetrical with respect to each other and relative to the straight line, balancing astigmatisms and improving resolution.

A waveform alternating voltage or a static voltage is applied to the first electrode in which three vertical slot type electron beam passing holes are formed. The second electrode is installed at one side of the first electrode in which circular electron beam passing holes are formed. The third electrode is disposed at the other side of the first electrode. A single horizontal slot type electron beam passing hole is formed in the third electrode to which the same dynamic focus voltage as that in the second electrode is applied.

A color CRT is driven by focusing and accelerating an electron beam emitted from a cathode by forming electron lenses including a quadrupole lens by applying a predetermined voltage to the cathode of an electron gun installed in a neck portion of a funnel and each of electrodes, focusing the electron beam on a fluorescent film by applying a voltage having a horizontal dynamic waveform having a ratio of slopes of 6.85 or more between a unilateral area of 90% and a unilateral area of 50% of a raster area to which a video signal of an image is applied, to at least one of the electrodes forming the quadrupole lens, synchronized with a horizontal deflection signal of a deflection yoke installed at a cone portion of the funnel, in order to deflect an electron beam emitted from the electron gun and scan the deflected electron beam onto the fluorescent film of a panel sealed to the funnel, and forming an image by having the deflected electron beam land on the fluorescent film and excite the fluorescent film. Thus, resolution of the overall screen is increased.
