A plasticized sulfur composition having improved flame retardancy and crazing resistance, comprising at least 50% by weight sulfur, a sulfur plasticizer, decabromodiphenyl oxide and an inorganic filler. Preferably, the composition also contains dicyclopentadiene.

Plasticized sulfur composition

A composition comprising 50 to 98 weight percent sulfur, 0.2 to 20 weight percent of an organic compound reactive with sulfur to plasticize sulfur, 1 to 40 weight percent mica, and 0.02 to 5 weight percent phosphorus sulfide. Preferably the organic compound used to plasticize the sulfur is dicyclopentadiene or a glycol. The composition is advantageously used to coat a concrete or metal surface and thereby obtain a coated surface which is resistant to acid attack and resistant to crazing on exposure to fluctuating temperatures.

A composition comprising sulfur, an aromatic polymeric polysulfide sulfur plasticizer, a mica filler, and a triarylphosphate has exceptional craze resistance when used as a coating formulation.

Craze-resistant plasticized sulfur compositions

A composition comprising at least 50 weight percent sulfur, a sulfur plasticizer, and an aromatic polysulfide which is formed by reacting one mol of an aromatic carbocyclic or a heterocyclic compound, substituted by at least one functional group of the class --OH or --NHR in which R is H or lower alkyl, with at least two mols of sulfur. Preferred sulfur plasticizers are aliphatic linear polysulfides, and preferred aromatic polysulfides are formed using phenol. The composition typically also contains an inorganic filler such as mica or asbestos. The composition is especially useful for obtaining surface coatings which are resistant to delamination, cracking and crazing upon exposure to weather conditions.

Plasticized sulfur coating composition

A plasticized sulfur composition having improved chemical resistance, comprising at least 50% by weight sulfur, a sulfur plasticizer, a mineral suspending agent, and an organosilane stabilizing agent.

A sulfur plasticizing composition comprising an aromatic polymeric polysulfide, a linear aliphatic polysulfide and an olefinic-type unsaturated carboxylic acid. The presence of unsaturated acid moderates the evolution of hydrogen sulfide when the plasticizing composition is reacted with sulfur, thereby preventing a rapid, uncontrolled degassing of the reaction mixture.

Sulfur plasticizing composition

A composition comprising sulfur, a plasticizer, asbestos fibers, and a dispersing agent and wherein the asbestos fibers include 20 to 80 weight percent amphibole and 20 to 80 weight percent chrysotile. The composition is useful as a construction material and as a coating, for example in water-tight and/or acid-resistant surfaces.
