A system and method for separating the functions of a liquid chromatography (LC) system into physically separate systems that allow for a more versatile LC system, wherein an LC device provides columna liquid solvent, a sample, and a pump and injector that pushes the sample in the solvent to an output port, and providing an attachable module containing a module input port, a column, a heater for the column, and at least one detector for on-column detection, then attaching the module to the LC device using a press-fit connection that enables the sample in the solvent to be pumped through the column to the at least one detector in order to separate, identify and quantify substances in the sample and transmit results from the at least one detector to the LC system for collection and analysis.

Method and apparatus for aerodynamic ion focusing

A high voltage ion propulsion field is applied across the length of an ion mobility spectrometer that is divided by a barrier wall into a desolvation region and a drift tube. A plume of ions and solvent is electrosprayed into the desolvation region, and ions are propelled from the desolvation region through the drift tube to an ion target. Drift gas flows through the drift tube in the opposite direction to oppose the ion flow. A portal in the barrier wall permits ions to move from the desolvation region into the drift tube, and restricts flow of drift gas from the drift tube into the desolvation region. The resulting drift gas velocity increase effects desolvation without requiring elevated temperature or decreased pressure. An ion gate is located near the portal and an aperture grid is located near the ion target. The drift gas flow rate is varied to change the ionization spectra to alter selectivity.

Atmospheric pressure ionization ion mobility spectrometry

Cyclodextrin containing polymeric siloxanes wherein the cyclodextrin is connected to the polymeric siloxane by a single linking member connected to the 2, 3 or 6-position of the cyclodextrin are disclosed. These polymers are chemically and thermally stable to gas, supercritical fluid chromatographic conditions. The single arm attachment provides cyclodextrin containing polysiloxane polymers having synthesis reproducibility from batch to batch resulting in consistent chromatographic performance of the resulting chiral phases. The use of such polymers as chiral stationary phases in analytical and preparative gas, supercritical fluid and liquid chromatographic separations, and particularly for analysis of enantiomeric and other stereoisomeric mixtures of various substances is shown.
