A four-component microscope objective has a numerical aperture of 0.66. When used with a telescope objective as described in U.S. Pat. No. 3,355,234, the objective provides a magnification of 40X and is well corrected for the usual chromatic image aberrations, spherical aberration, coma and astigmatism.

Microscope objective

A five component microscope objective has a numerical aperture of 1.25. When used with a telescope as described in U.S. Pat. No. 3,355,234 and an immersion oil, the objective provides a magnification of 100.times.X in an embodiment having a focal length of 1.824 mm and is well corrected for the usual chromatic image aberrations, spherical aberration, coma and astigmatism.

A four component 10.times. microscope objective having a concavo-convex negative triplet as the third element providing sufficient color correction to permit classification as a semi-apochromatic objective is disclosed.

10.times. Microscope objective

An illumination system for bright field/dark field microscopy has a swinging deflector which is normally positioned on the optical axis when bright field microscopy is used and which is swung off the optical axis when dark field microscopy is used. When the deflector is swung off the optical axis an alternate illumination axis is utilized to provide a reduced portion of the observation axis having coaxial counterflowing light passing there along.

Bright field-dark field illumination system

A seven-member microscope objective having a numerical aperture of 0.55 providing a magnification of substantially 40X in combination with a telescope objective as described in U.S. Pat. No. 3,355,234 is disclosed.

Seven-component microscope objective

The annular reflector for a dark-field, vertically-illuminated microscope objective must have a peculiar curvature to obtain a uniform distribution of the light on the object surface being viewed. Four reflectors are disclosed. Each reflector is suitable for use in a respective microscope objective.

Annular reflector for microscope objective

A two-component microscope condenser consisting of a biconvex positive doublet as the first component and a convex-plano positive doublet as the second component has excellent correction for spherical aberration and coma with significant reduction of pupillary aberration. The front pupil plane of the condenser is located external to the glass in order to provide utility of the condenser in microscope techniques requiring positioning of optical elements in the pupil plane. A negative lens may be combined with one embodiment of the invention to provide a longer working distance.

Abbe condenser

A two-element eyepiece having a biconvex singlet with the radii of the convex surfaces being substantially identical and a convex-plano doublet formed of a biconvex element having radii of the convex surfaces being substantially equal with a concavo-plano component cemented thereto, has a field of view of approximately 40.degree. with good correction for normal eyepiece aberrations. Eye relief is approximately 80 percent of the effective focal length.

Two-element eyepiece

A microscope condenser of the Abbe type has the optical characteristics of the biconvex singlet followed by the convex-plano singlet improved by making the first surface of the biconvex singlet aspherical. The aspherical surface substantially reduces spherical aberration and coma as well as pupillary aberration of the condenser.

Microscope condenser

A two element 10X eyepiece has a field of view of about 44.degree. and provides a wide field (20mm) with lenses having curve-diameter ratios considered desirable from a manufacturing view.
