A milling apparatus 2 including an articulated cutter 20 and an inverted L-shaped frame 10 for removing a unique geometric volume of bone to receive a prosthetic implant stem. Cutter 20 is housed within frame 10 for rotational movement about its longitudinal axis and lateral movement along a guide 16, which extends laterally from frame 10. Cutter 20 includes a pair of articulated arms 30, 32 each carrying a plurality of cutting blades 40. The proximal end 22 of cutter 20 is seated in an elongated non-radial race 17 formed in guide 16. Articulated arms 30, 32 provide a 'scissoring' action which allows cutter 20 to be compressed longitudinally when shifted to one end of race 17 and extended longitudinally when shifted to the opposite end of race 17. The scissoring action of arms 30, 32 also changes the angle of the cutting face of blades 40 carried by arms 30, 32. Consequently, milling apparatus 2 creates a receiving cavity having an egg-shaped cross section.

Proximal body milling apparatus

A surgical reamer assembly for cutting a planar bone surface. The surgical reamer assembly enables the angle or the level of the cutting of the planar reamer to be adjusted. This adjustment is advantageously provided by the use of an adaptor which is positioned between the base support and the planar reamer.

Surgical reamer assembly

A set of hip prosthesis components including a plurality of head components and an adaptor component for use in assembling together one of the head components and a femoral stem component. The first head component is an endo head component having a first bore of a first shape or length. The second head component includes a second bore that is of a second shape or length different from the first shape or length. The adaptor includes an axially extending protruding portion wherein the first shape or length of the first bore is sufficient for the bore to accept and frictionally retain therein the protruding portion. The second shape or length of the second bore is insufficient or inappropriate for the second bore to frictionally retain therein the protruding portion.

Head adaptor for hip prosthesis

A manually operated gauge for the simultaneous measurement of two orthogonal diameters of a spherical member. The gauge comprises four uniquely shaped bars all pivotably connected together about four parallel pivot axes, the bars arranged to enclose a measurement or work space into which the spherical member to be measured may be brought. Two main arms are pivotably joined at one end and each is provided with a pair of orthogonally oriented contact surfaces at the other end, the contact surfaces adapted to arcuately move with their respective arms about the arm-pivot in order to capture a spherical member between them. A scale member is pivotably connected to the free end of one of the arms and an indicator member is pivotably joined to the free end of the other of the arms. The scale member and the indicator member are pivotably connected to each other about an axis aligned along the center line of the gauge while the other ends of the scale member and the indicator member cooperate to indicate the size of the spherical component being measured.
