A blow molding apparatus including a pair of mold halves, a sealing blade mounted in one mold half and extendable into the mold cavity to seal the blown bottle, a drive member and an angled force multiplying drive connecting the drive member and blade is used in a method to produce a molded sealed bottle.

A modular extrusion head is disclosed including a plurality of cross head die modules, each including a flow path for a single resin. Molten resin layers are flowed from the modules onto a stepped mandrel and then along the mandrel and out an extrusion die to form a multi-layer parison. The layers are thin, with a uniform thickness and hole free. The modules are temperature zoned to permit flowing of a low temperature resin to and along the mandrel in contact with a high temperature resin without impairing the properties of the low temperature resin.

During pouring, air flows through the vent passage to a vacuum produced pocket in the bottle and liquid flows from the bottle in a continuous, controllable and rapidly laminar stream.

A cross head die for extruding an annular layer of thermoplastic resin on a mandril includes a resin flow path having an inlet, a cardioid shaped primary distribution channel, a gate passage, an equilibration chamber and a transfer channel surrounding the mandril and a mouth at the downstream end of the transfer channel opening into a resin extrusion channel surrounding the mandrel.
