Multiple identical data loggers are produced on sheet material and then separated to produce individual products for distribution to separate locations. A continuous roll of tape sheet material comprises a contiguous series of data loggers which each include a cover sheet, a transponder, a sensor, a power source (such as a battery), an antenna, a microprocessor, an adhesive layer and means to separate individual data logger elements from one another.

Data logger

A system combining the output of a thermal detection and imaging device with a capture and display device, such as a cordless or portable telephone/camera, is used to manage thermal information and displays.

Interfacing devices and systems

This invention relates to optical sighting apparatus systems, and to methods for visualization and for identifying remote target surface areas without physical contact for the purpose of measurement and/or of treatment of the remote surface. An arrangement of projected light beams indicates the position and size of the target surface in relation to a measurement detector or treatment device, so that the device is accurately directed to the target. In a preferred arrangement separate laser beams form a light distribution indication or brightness pattern at the target and the device is sighted toward the pattern on the target surface area.

Sighting system and method

A wireless transceiver includes a microprocessor for processing signals and communication circuitry coupled to the microprocessor. The communication circuitry includes input/output circuitry for receiving signals from a plurality of wireless devices over a wireless communication path, for providing the signals to the microprocessor, and for transmitting processed signals from the microprocessor to the plurality of wireless devices. The input/output circuitry of the transceiver includes a non-wireless connection coupling the wireless transceiver to a test and measurement device. The test and measurement device receives the processed signals from the microprocessor, processes the received signal and data and/or information encoded therein, and performs a predetermined response thereto.

Universal wireless transceiver

A measurement system includes a preexisting sensor, a transducer module installed in the pre-existing sensor including a memory storing information for identifying and operating the transducer, and a control device for communicating with the memory, the control device including a processor for automatically configuring the control device in response to data communicated from the memory and for collecting data from the pre-existing sensor. A method includes installing a transducer module into a preexisting sensor, and communicating between a memory of the transducer and a control device to automatically configure the control device in response to information for identifying and operating the transducer stored in the memory, and for collecting data from the pre-existing sensor.

Smart sensor

A method and device are described for controlling and/or attenuating aiming laser beam brightness in a hand held radiometer. The beam from the laser is directed at a target measurement surface and a transversely movable element member is interposed between the laser and the target to change the beam brightness on the target. In a preferred device a slidable or rotatable element intercepts the beam between the laser and target and a calibrated opening in the element of selected size and/or shape allows part of the beam to pass through the element to provide a safe brightness at the target.

Radiometer sighting device and method

The present invention is directed to a hand-held infrared thermometer or radiometer () for measuring, remotely, the temperature of a target surface (). In one embodiment, the radiometer includes an infrared detector (), associated optical system (), and associated circuitry and an LCD display (). Built into or mounted on the radiometer is a distance measuring device (), the operation of which is controlled by the radiometer. The device () includes an ultrasonic transmitter/receiver () and associated circuitry for calculating, from a comparison of the transmitted and received pulses, the distance of the radiometer from the target surface. The distance-to-target is displayed on the LCD display ().

Infrared thermometers

A radiometer includes a sighting system which generates an image of an area on the surface of an object onto the IR detector. The distance between the object surface and the radiometer is measured by a rangefinder, controlled by the radiometer. From the distance one can calculate the size of the energy zone on the surface, as materialized on a radiometer sighting system display.

Measurement system and method

A speech module () comprises an independent self-contained connector module or unit which is adapted to be releasably connected in series with the input to, or output from, a signal sensing apparatus (). The module is provided with plugs and/or sockets () compatible with those of the apparatus () so that the module () is capable of forming a connector in series with the signal input or output leads (). The module is further provided with plugs and/or sockets () and leads () to replace the signal input or output leads (). The module is connected to a data output socket () by means of a lead (); in the alternative, it is connected to the input connectors () of the apparatus and is further connected by leads to probes () equivalent to the standard probes used by the apparatus, which is preferably an electrical multimeter.

Speech generating method for use with signal generators

An infra-red measurement device is disclosed having at least two laser emitters () which between them define a sighting area (&#x2033;). In one embodiment of the invention, two lasers are provided and these are each preferably split into a number of beams by means of, for example, a diffraction grating lens (). The fact that there are two laser emitting devices, means that effectively twice the power can be utilised since the limit is per laser emitting device, and thus twice the brightness of a conventional device attained. In another embodiment of the invention, four laser emitters () are employed and the beams () can be split by a diffraction grating as before. The laser emitters in the device can be operated simultaneously, sequentially, or can be pulsed. Having greater brightness than conventional devices, the detectors of the invention are excellent for use in dark or smoky conditions, for example for obtaining the temperatures of car engines, furnaces and the like.

Laser system

A thermoelectric connector module (C) is disclosed which comprises input () and output (E) connectors and contains signal conditioning circuitry (C). The input connectors () are interfaced with a hand-held detector (), and the output connectors (E) are connected to signal-utilising apparatus (). The module does not contain a battery but receives its power supply for the conditioning circuitry from the signal-utilising apparatus supplied via the output connectors (E). In this way, the module may be miniaturised, making it particularly suitable for mounting directly on a hand-held temperature detector or probe. Since the connector does not have to be opened for a battery replacement, it can be permanently hermetically sealed, providing resistance to dirt, dust, moisture, water and the like.

Two wire temperature transmitter

The invention relates to instruments, such as radiometers, which generate a laser beam for striking a target at a distance to assist in aiming the instrument at a selected area of a target. Provision is made for splitting a single beam, used for instance for centering the instrument on the target, into a plurality of beams for creating a pattern or for defining an area on the target. When a single beam is split, the resultant plural beams produced are of relatively lower power, which may be insufficient for visibility on a target at a distance. In a first embodiment the invention provides apparatus to increase the power of the single laser beam when it is split, so as to provide plural beams of appropriately higher power and visibility. In a second embodiment, the invention provides apparatus for attenuating the beam power when a single beam is used, and for removing the attenuation when the beam is split into multiple beams. Apparatus for changing the single beam of the instrument to multiple beams, and vice versa, has a body structure with a relatively movable carrier incorporating a beam splitter device, and an attenuating or non-attenuating device, such that relative movement of the carrier causes, in a first embodiment, an increase of the laser beam power when only a single beam is used, and in a second embodiment an attenuation of the laser beam power when a relatively higher power single beam is used. In the second embodiment, the relative movement of the carrier serves to actuate switching means controlling the power of the laser beam. Such apparatus is advantageously in the form of an attachment for engagement releasably on the laser beam instrument.

Laser instrument

The invention relates to instruments which include radiometers and which generate a laser beam for striking a target at a distance to assist in aiming the instrument at a selected area of a target. Provision is made for splitting a single beam, used for instance for centering the instrument on the target, into a plurality of beams for creating a pattern or for defining an area on the target. When a single beam is split, the resultant plural beams produced are of relatively lower power, which may be insufficient for visibility on a target at a distance. The invention provides apparatus to increase the power of the single laser beam when it is split, so as to provide plural beams of appropriately higher power and visibility.

A unique packaging method is disclosed. The method advertises products related to a product shipped in a box and comprises obtaining a box, placing a product in the box, and identifying a particular product category associated with the product being shipped in the box. This may be followed by obtaining an elongated flexible planar member having a width and a length substantially greater than the width, the planar member having an upper surface and a lower surface. The flexible planar member is provided with a layer of adhesive material deposited on and covering a substantial portion of the lower surface to form a packaging tape. The tape is imprinted with indicia comprising visually perceivable information to provide a purchaser with information relating to various products within the particular product category by disposing the information on the upper surface of the tape. The box is sealed with the tape. The method thus serves to particularly well-target advertising, as it is sent to consumers of known products. At the same time the invention provides the advantage of low-cost as compared to dedicated printed packages.

Method of delivering advertising material

Method and Apparatus are provided for visibly outlining the energy zone to be measured by a radiometer, the method comprises providing a laser sighting device on the radiometer adapted to emit more than two laser beams against a surface whose temperature is to be measured and positioning said laser beams about the energy zone to identify said energy zone. The apparatus comprises a laser sighting device adapted to emit more than two laser beams against the surface and means to position said laser beams about the energy zone and to identify said zone. A primary laser beam is passed through or over a beam splitter or a diffraction grating and formed into a plurality of secondary beams which produce on the target surface a pattern which identifies the zone investigated with the radiometer. Laser light may be directed axially to illuminate the central area of the zone.
