The device comprises a molecular network that functions as both the battery-type electrode and the charge indicator. The present invention provides metal-organic materials, more specifically organometallic polymers, comprising polypyridyl organic ligands such as tetrakis(4-(pyridin-4-ylethynyl)phenyl)methane, tetrakis(4-(2-(pyridin-4-yl)vinyl)phenyl)methane, 1,3,5,7-tetrakis(4-(pyridin-4-ylethynyl)phenyl)adamantane or 1,3,5,7-tetrakis(4-(2-(pyridine-4-yl)vinyl)phenyl) adamantine, and metal ions structurally coordinated with said ligands, and having three-dimensional crystalline micro or sub-micro structure; as well as a method for the preparation thereof. These metal-organic materials are useful as adsorbents in processes for gas adsorption or separation.

A device is presented having reversibly changeable and optically readable optical properties. The device comprises a substrate having an electrically conductive surface and carrying a redox-active layer structure. The redox-active layer structure may be a monolayer or a multi-layer structure and is configured to have at least one predetermined electronic property including at least one of electrodensity and oxidation state. The electronic property of the layer structure defines an optical property of the structure thereby determining an optical response of the structure to certain incident light. This at least one electronic property is changeable by subjecting the redox-active layer structure to an electric field or to a redox-active material. The device thus enables effecting a change in said electronic property that results in a detectable change in the optical response of the layer structure.

Redox-active structures and devices utilizing the same

A solid-state, multi-valued, molecular random access memory (RAM) device, comprising an electrically, optically and/or magnetically addressable unit, a memory reader, and a memory writer. The addressable unit comprises a conductive substrate; one or more layers of electrochromic, magnetic, redox-active, and/or photochromic materials deposited on the conductive substrate; and a conductive top layer deposited on top the one or more layers. The memory writer applies a plurality of predetermined values of potential biases or optical signals or magnetic fields to the unit, wherein each predetermined value applied results in a uniquely distinguishable optical, magnetic and/or electrical state of the unit, thus corresponding to a unique logical value. The memory reader reads the optical, magnetic and/or electrical state of the unit.

Solid, multi-state molecular random access memory

The present invention relates to a molecular-based system for the optical detection, quantification and detoxification of hexavalent chromium (Cr) by reversible metal-substrate electron transfer. More particularly, the invention provides a Crsensor device comprising a divalent osmium (Os)-, iron (Fe)- or ruthenium (R)-based pyridyl complex capable of changing its oxidation state in response to a reduction of Crat the presence of H, thereby causing a reversible and optically readable change in optical properties of said complex. The Os-, Fe- or R-based pyridyl complex used according to the invention can be used for selective detection and quantification of Cr, as well as for catalytic detoxification of Cr.
