The present invention describes a method of providing a mark to a case () of a cartridge () of ammunition. The mark comprises at least one sub-mark () and is suitable for identification or for tracking of the cartridge (). According to the present invention, at least one scratching means () selectively incises a surface of the case (), thereby forming the at least one sub-mark ().

Method and device for marking ammunition for identification or tracking

A method of providing a mark to a case of a cartridge of ammunition. The mark includes at least one sub-mark and is suitable for identification and/or for tracking of the cartridge. At least one indenter selectively radially indents a circumferential surface of a bottom of the case, thereby forming the at least one sub-mark.

Scanner, method of scanning and system for scanning that allows detecting decay time characteristics of light emitted by a luminescent marking on an item which is transported, even at high speed, on a distribution/production line. The detection zone of the scanner's light sensor has a shape elongated along a path of the moving item, and the responsivity of the light sensor, within the wavelength range of the emitted luminescence light, is uniform over the detection zone. The disclosed annular light guide illuminator () is operable to guide light from its entry surface () to its exit surface () for illuminating a zone () at its distal end (), and comprises a truncated-cone-shaped inner cavity () of which base opens onto said distal end (), and of which truncated summit () opposite to said base opens onto an inner hole portion () for back transmitting light reflected/emitted from said zone. An optical scanner implementing said illuminator is also disclosed.

The invention discloses a method and a device for the authentication of a document, a valued good or a packaging, carrying a marking (M) exhibiting a viewing-angle dependent light reflection spectrum. The authentication method is based on a measurement of the intensity of light reflected by the marking at least at two different viewing angles in response to a sequential wide-angle illumination with light of different spectral characteristics, and the comparison of the measured intensity values with corresponding reference values. The authentication device () has at least two light sources () of different spectral characteristics, a wide-angle illumination optics (), and at least two photodetectors () collecting light reflected by said markings at least at two different viewing angles. It may further have a programmed 'learning mode' for measuring and storing a set of reflected intensity values of a reference item, and a programmed 'testing mode', for measuring a corresponding set of intensity values on an item to be authenticated and comparing them with the previously stored set of reference values, hereby deriving and indicating a test result.

Method and device for the authentication of documents and goods

Security documents or articles carrying luminescent marker compounds which show a time-deferred emission characteristic are authenticated by a method and device which allows for rapid extraction of characteristic luminescent parameters, such as emission intensity and time constants. The method is not sensitive to perturbations by ambient light and reduces optical filtering requirements.
