An air pump includes a compressor having a compressor wheel mounted in a housing assembly defining an air inlet for leading air flow into the compressor wheel and defining a volute for receiving compressed air from the compressor wheel. A vaned diffuser ring is mounted within the housing assembly radially outward of the compressor wheel and includes an annular vane plate and a plurality of circumferentially spaced vanes having proximal ends rigidly attached to a first side of the plate, the vanes extending axially from the vane plate and distal ends of the vanes being disposed proximate a first wall of the housing assembly axially spaced from the plate such that a vaned diffuser passage is defined between said first wall and the vane plate. The vaned diffuser ring is embedded within the volute such that a second side of the vane plate is wetted by air within the volute.

A turbomachine includes a fluid compressor section with a compressor wheel supported on a shaft and a compressor housing that houses the compressor wheel for rotation therein about an axis of rotation. The turbomachine also includes an e-machine section with an e-machine operatively connected to the shaft and configured to convert energy between the e-machine and the shaft as the shaft rotates. The e-machine section includes an e-machine housing that houses at least part of the e-machine. The turbomachine further includes a coolant jacket that is defined at least partly in the e-machine housing. The coolant jacket is configured to receive a fluid coolant flow therein for cooling the e-machine. Also, the turbomachine includes a turbulator insert member that is removably received within the coolant jacket and that sub-divides the coolant jacket for directing the fluid coolant flow through the coolant jacket.

An e-charger includes a motor case that encases the motor and an outer housing that houses the motor case. The e-charger additionally includes a cooling system with passages cooperatively defined by the outer housing and the motor case. First and second longitudinal passages extend between the first and second ends of the motor, and a second longitudinal passage extends between the second and first ends of the motor. The end passage fluidly connects the first and second longitudinal passage. The cooling system is configured for directing flow of the coolant from the inlet, through the first longitudinal passage in a first longitudinal direction with respect to the axis, through the end passage, and back through the second longitudinal passage in a second longitudinal direction with respect to the axis.

An electrical connector arrangement for a turbomachine includes a support structure and a terminal with a terminal post projecting from the support structure along an axis. The electrical connector arrangement includes a connection stack that is supported by the terminal and arranged along the axis of the terminal post. The connection stack includes a bus bar that is electrically connected to the terminal post and that extends from the terminal post and the support structure. The connection stack includes a first deformable seal member and a second deformable seal member. The first deformable seal member is deformed against the terminal post to define an inner radial seal within the connection stack. The second deformable seal member is deformed against the support structure to define an outer radial seal within the connection stack.

A turbocharger includes a housing and a rotating group supported for rotation within the housing. The rotating group includes a compressor wheel disposed within a compressor section of the turbocharger, and the rotating group includes a turbine wheel disposed within a turbine section of the turbocharger. The turbine wheel includes a bleed pressure surface. The turbocharger further includes a bleed passage that extends at least partly through the housing to fluidly connect the compressor section to the turbine section. The bleed passage is configured to direct a bleed flow of fluid from the compressor section to the bleed pressure surface to supply a thrust counterbalance load to the bleed pressure surface.

A compressor device includes a housing with a cavity. The compressor device includes a rotating group supported for rotation within the housing. The rotating group includes a shaft that supports a compressor wheel proximate a first end of the shaft. A second end of the shaft extends away from the compressor wheel through the cavity of the housing. The compressor device further includes a moisture evacuation system configured to remove airborne moisture from the compressor device. The moisture evacuation system includes a shaft passage extending through the second end of the shaft and a housing passage extending through an outer wall of the housing. The shaft passage is fluidly connected to the cavity. The housing passage is fluidly connected to the shaft passage. The moisture evacuation system is configured to direct the airborne moisture from the cavity, through the shaft passage, and out of the housing via the housing passage.

The compressor device further includes a bearing that supports the rotating group within the housing for rotation about an axis. The spacer is received within a wall of the housing. In a turbocharged internal combustion engine (ICE) system, a catalytic treatment device receives exhaust gases from the ICE after they have passed through the turbocharger turbine. The system includes a secondary air pump (SAP) for injecting pressurized air into the exhaust gases ahead of the catalytic treatment device. The SAP is a single-stage centrifugal compressor that includes an air recirculation passage for causing a first portion of the air pressurized by the SAP to be continuously recirculated back to the inlet of the SAP, which is effective for heating the air in the volute of the SAP. A second portion of the pressurized air, having thereby been heated, is injected into the exhaust gases proceeding toward the catalytic treatment device.

A compressor device includes a housing and a shaft supported for rotation within the housing. The compressor device includes a compressor section with a compressor wheel. Also, the compressor device includes a thrust suppression section with a chamber and a thrust balance body disposed within the chamber. Moreover, the compressor device includes a motor configured to drivingly rotate the shaft, the compressor wheel, and the thrust balance body. The thrust balance body divides the chamber into a first sub-chamber and a second sub-chamber. Additionally, the compressor device includes a bleed air system that fluidly connects the compressor section and the thrust suppression section. The bleed air system is configured to bleed air from the compressor section, through the first sub-chamber, to the second sub-chamber, pressurizing the first sub-chamber and generating a counterbalancing thrust load that counterbalances a compressor thrust load on the shaft.

The e-charger further includes an electric motor configured to drive the shaft and the compressor wheel in rotation. Moreover, the e-charger includes a dampening system incorporated in the housing and configured to dampen loads transferring through the housing. The dampening system includes at least one solid-state dampener that is resiliently flexible, and the dampening system includes at least one fluid viscous dampener.

A single-stage compressor device includes a housing and a rotating group with a shaft and a compressor wheel. The compressor wheel includes a front face and a back face. The front face cooperates with the housing to define a compressor flow path. A motor drives rotation of the rotating group within the housing. Furthermore, the compressor device includes a bleed system fluidly connected to the compressor flow path and configured to receive bleed fluid from the compressor flow path. The bleed system includes a bleed passage. At least a portion of the bleed passage is cooperatively defined by the back face of the compressor wheel and an opposing surface of the housing. The bleed system is configured to pass bleed air from the bleed passage, thereby alleviating thrust loading of the compressor wheel on the rotating group.

A compressor assembly includes a shaft and a compressor wheel that is supported on the shaft. The compressor assembly also includes an electric motor with a stator and a rotor. The electric motor is configured to rotate the shaft and the compressor wheel. The compressor assembly additionally includes a housing assembly configured to house the stator, the rotor, and at least part of the shaft. The housing assembly includes a first member and a second member. Moreover, the compressor assembly includes a dampener disposed between the first member and the second member of the housing assembly. The dampener is configured to elastically deform to provide dampening of a force transferred between the first member and the second member of the housing assembly.

A two-sided turbocharger compressor wheel and a housing forming a diffuser for the compressor. A first side and a second side of the compressor wheel are characterized by different values of a trim and of an annulus area. A first side of the diffuser surrounds the first side of the compressor wheel, and a second side of the diffuser surrounds the second side of the compressor wheel. The first and second sides of the diffuser are characterized by different annulus area ratios. The blades of the first and second sides of the compressor wheel are angularly offset from one another. The compressor wheel is configured for greater flow through the side of the compressor wheel that faces away from a related turbine wheel.

A multi-stage compressor for a turbocharger includes a compressor housing that defines an aperture for receiving a compressor wheel for successively compressing air in first and second stages. First- and second-stage inlets are fluidly connected to the aperture in opposite axial directions, and first- and second-stage volutes extend at least partially annularly therearound so that each volute is configured to receive gas flowing generally radially outward from the compressor wheel. First and second passages fluidly connect the first-stage volute to the second-stage inlet. The passages approach the second-stage inlet from opposite radially inward directions, and are asymmetric with respect to any pair of orthogonal axes having an origin lying on the turbocharger rotary axis as viewed on a transverse cross-section that is normal to the turbocharger axis.
