A method can include accessing a model of a subterranean region where the model includes a fault that corresponds to a fault in the subterranean region; via a first side of the fault, outwardly radiating therefrom cells of the model with a first type of radiation and, via a second, opposing side of the fault, outwardly radiating therefrom cells of the model with a second type of radiation; and, based at least in part on the outwardly radiating of the first type of radiation and the outwardly radiating of the second type of radiation, assigning a portion of the cells of the model a sidedness property value with respect to the fault that indicates that each cell in the portion of the cells is assigned to the first side of the fault or assigned to the second side of the fault.

Fault radiation based grid compartmentalization

A method, apparatus, and program product cluster a plurality of cells of an input unstructured volumetric grid representative of a subsurface volume into a plurality of clusters, simplify a boundary of each cluster and generate an output unstructured volumetric grid representing at least a portion of the input unstructured volumetric grid by generating in the output unstructured volumetric grid a respective cell for each of the plurality of clusters. The resulting output grid may be used to facilitate the generation of visualizations and/or numerical simulations.

Unstructured volumetric grid simplification using sub-volume clustering

A method, system, and computer-readable medium for providing a visualization of a model. The method includes receiving a grid of the model including cells representing space, time, or both in the model. The method also includes grouping at least some of the cells into first-level gridlets. The method also includes grouping at least some of the first-level gridlets into second-level gridlets. The method further includes determining a first upper limit of elements to send for display, based on a display system capability, and determining that the number of first-level gridlets exceeds the first upper limit, and that the number of second-level gridlets is less than or equal to the first upper limit. In response, the method includes selecting at least some of the second-level gridlets for display and omitting from display at least some of the cells and at least some of the first-level gridlets.

Interactive visualization of reservoir simulation data sets

In visualizing flow in subsurface reservoirs, a system partitions flow information according to source-sink pairs and streamlines in a reservoir. The system displays dynamic streamline flow indicators and flow animations, such as 3D pie charts, to dynamically show flow contributions and properties at each well. A pie chart displayed at a producer well may have pie wedges that dynamically update to show the percentage of fluid being received via streamlines from each of multiple injectors. Highlighting the chart highlights all wells contributing to the output. Radial sections of each pie wedge may be further mapped to show the flow rate of components, such as oil, water, and gas phases in a streamline. Each chart may show many other properties and may be stacked across time steps. The system also displays streamline properties with animations, which demonstrate flow velocity and model properties, such as phase components, rates, volumes, etc., through color and size codes.
