Methods and systems for dynamic wireless power transfer to charge an electric vehicle (EV) in motion are provided. The method can include: transmitting wireless power from a plurality of main transmitter coils; transmitting wireless power from a assisted coil disposed between each pair of adjacent main transmitter coils; receiving the wireless power at a receiver coil when the electric vehicle is charged in motion; providing a primary compensation network coupled to the main transmitter coils and the assisted coils; and compensating for reactive power at a secondary side by a secondary compensation network coupled to the receiver coil. Dimensions and positions of the assisted coils and parameters of the compensation network are configured to maintain a substantially constant mutual inductance profile between the transmitter coils and the receiver coil when the electric vehicle is charged in motion, thereby reducing power pulsation and providing a stable output voltage to the battery of the EV.

Structure-based methods to mitigate voltage fluctuations in dynamic wireless power transfer for electric vehicles

Systems and methods are provided for stabilizing power and voltage in dynamic wireless charging (e.g., of electric vehicles). Systems and methods can use a composite control that combines a backstepping control approach with passivity-based control to stabilize output voltage during movement of the load (e.g., travel of the electric vehicle) and/or changing load conditions. As an example, a Lyapunov function-based control method can be used to regulate output voltage and power by controlling a boost converter at the secondary side. Systems and methods can ensure that the output voltage remains independent of load conditions, while also effectively maintaining smooth power delivery even as the load and mutual coupling fluctuate simultaneously, demonstrating rapid response to varying load conditions and mutual coupling.

Systems and methods for stabilizing power and voltage in dynamic wireless charging

Systems and methods for dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT) are provided (e.g., DWPT of electric vehicles (EVs)). The inductor of the secondary compensation network can be integrated with the main inductive coil, which can introduce mutual couplings (e.g., three mutual couplings) in the system. The additional mutual coupling leads to a smooth power profile and an increase in power (e.g., power transferred during dynamic charging). The secondary compensation network inductor coil and the secondary main coil can be designed, configured, and/or arranged in a way that mutual coupling between them and the transmitter coils produces a uniform power profile.

Systems and methods for dynamic wireless power transfer

Systems and methods are provided for detecting vehicle position during electric vehicle charging using machine learning, as well as a control scheme for activating charging coils when the vehicle crosses them. The machine learning can have as inputs the primary current, the vehicle ground clearances, and the speed of the vehicle. As different vehicles with different ground clearances are traveling across the transmitter coils for charging, ground clearance can be defined as a variable for machine learning. Vehicles can move at different speeds, so the speed of the vehicle can be considered in the prediction of the vehicle position.

Systems and methods for detecting vehicle position during dynamic wireless charging

Systems and methods are provided for combined inductive power transfer (IPT) and capacitive power transfer (CPT) to reduce power pulsation in dynamic charging of electric vehicles. Aluminum plates provided between transmitter coils inhibit output power drop, the power pulsation can be reduced, and a constant power profile is provided by operation of CPT system when the receiver is between the IPT coils. As the aluminum plates cover the space between coils, the IPT coils can be separated away from each other by a longer distance compared to conventional segmented coils; therefore, a lesser copper can be used which enhances the cost effectiveness of the provided system. As the respective IPT and CPT system are used alternatively, thus the system's output power can be constant, nearly constant, or effectively constant.
