A method is disclosed for increasing strength properties, preferably burst strength and SCT strength, of a paper or board product. The paper or board product is manufactured from a fibrous web produced by a multilayer headbox, where an aqueous layer is formed between at least a first and a second fibre layer formed from fibrous stock suspension(s), and where feed water for the aqueous layer includes at least one cationic polymer. The method of the invention includes adding an anionic additive selected from a group comprising anionic synthetic organic polymers, anionic polysaccharides, and any of their combinations to the feed water before formation of the aqueous layer.

Method for increasing the strength properties of a paper or board product

The invention relates to a method for producing paper, board or the like. The method comprises obtaining a thick stock comprising cellulose fibres, forming a fibrous web and drying of drying the fibrous web. A strength agent system, which comprises at least one synthetic or natural polymer, or their mixture, and microfibrillated parenchymal cellulose material originating from non-wood sources, is added to the thick stock. The invention relates also to paper or board produced by the method.

Method for producing paper, board or the like

A cationic glyoxylated polyacrylamide polymer composition having improved storage stability for use in manufacture of paper, board or the like, which aqueous composition includes a glyoxylated polyacrylamide polymer having a cationic charge density in a range of 0.8-1.8 meq/g of dry polymer in dry content of 5-15% and a buffering acid. The aqueous composition has pH in a range of 2.2-4.0 and a viscosity of less than 80 mPas measured at 25&#xb0; C. by using a Brookfield viscometer after 30 days storage at 35&#xb0; C. or after 60 days storage at 23&#xb0; C.

Glyoxylated polyacrylamide polymer composition, its use and method for increasing the strength properties of paper, board or the like

The present invention relates to a method for providing a pretreated filler composition for use in paper and board manufacturing including the steps of: a) providing a filler comprising precipitated calcium carbonate, said filler being in the form of a slurry comprising no additives; b) providing at least one polymer selected from polyvinylamine or polyacrylic amide, said polymer having a charge density of an absolute value of at most 4 meq/g determined at pH 7; c) combining said at least one polymer of step b) with the filler of step a); d) providing a slurry of nanofibrillar cellulose; e) combining said nanofibrillar cellulose slurry with the formed combination of step c) and forming a pretreated filler composition comprising aggregates. Further it also relates to a pretreated filler composition prepared therefrom, and its use in stocks, paper and paper board.

Method for providing a pretreated filler composition and its use in paper and board manufacturing

The invention relates to an aqueous dry strength composition suitable for use in manufacture of paper, board or the like. The composition includes a mixture of a synthetic polymer component, which is a copolymer of acrylamide and at least one anionic monomer, and a cationic starch component. The polymer component has an anionicity of 1-60 mol-%. The synthetic polymer component and cationic starch component provide the composition with a charge density in the range of 0.05-1 meq/g, when measured at pH 2.8, and 0.2-&#x2212;3 meq/g, when measured at pH 7.0. The invention also relates to a method for making of paper, board or the like, where the dry strength composition is diluted with water, and the solution of the dry strength composition is added to the fibre stock before or after the addition of a cationic strength agent.

Dry strength composition, its use and method for making of paper, board or the like

The present invention relates to a filler aggregate composition comprising filler particles of ground calcium carbonate (GCC); a pretreatment agent selected from polyvinylamine (PVAM) and cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM), or a mixture thereof; and a nanofibrillar cellulose (NFC); wherein said filler aggregate composition is in the form of a slurry, wherein said pretreatment agent has an average molecular weight below 6000000 g/mol and a has a charge density below 7 meq/g, determined at pH 7, and the nanofibrillar cellulose is present in an amount of about 0.1-40% of the dry weight of the filler particles. Further it also relates to its method of production, and its use in stocks, paper and paper board.

Filler aggregate composition and its production

The invention relates to a method for treating a fiber stock for making of paper, board or the like. The method comprises obtaining a fiber thick stock and adding to the fiber thick stock at least one cationic first agent, and adding separately to the fiber stock and after the addition of the cationic first agent, at least one anionic second agent, which is an water-soluble anionic copolymer of acrylamide, methacrylamide or acrylonitrile, in such amount that the ratio of the added absolute cationic charge to the added absolute anionic charge is from 1:0.1 to 1:0.95. The invention relates also to the product prepared by using a fiber stock, which is treated by using the method.

The invention relates to a process for production of paper or board comprising providing a stock comprising cellulose fibers, adding a mixture comprising microfibrillated cellulose and a strength additive to the stock, adding a microparticle to the stock after the addition of said mixture, dewatering the stock on a wire to form a web, and drying the web.

The invention relates to a method for producing paper, board or the like. In the method is obtained an aqueous filler dispersion, comprising particles of at least one first filler, the filler dispersion having a floc size distribution with original mean chord length value. The particles of the first mineral filler are brought into a contact with a cationic pre-treatment agent, which is capable of initiating flocculation of the filler particles in the dispersion, whereby a pre-treated filler dispersion comprising flocs, which comprise first mineral particles, is formed. The pre-treated filler dispersion is combined with a stock of fibers. The floc size distribution of the filler dispersion is changed with the pre-treatment agent, which is a natural and/or synthetic polymer, so that the mean chord length value increases at least with 2% from the original mean chord length value. The invention relates also to an agglomerate comprising at least one first mineral filler particle, a plurality of second mineral filler particles attached to at least one first filler particle by a pre-treatment agent, which is a natural and/or synthetic polymer. The average particle size by weight of the first mineral filler particles is 1.5-4.0 &#x3bc;m, the average particle size by weight of the second mineral filler particles is 0.5-2.4 &#x3bc;m, provided that the second mineral filler particles are smaller than the first mineral filler particles, and the mean chord length of the agglomerate is &#x3c;40 &#x3bc;m.
