A method for operating, such as commissioning, an elevator, and an elevator are presented herein. The elevator comprises an electric linear motor for moving movable units. The method comprises moving a first movable unit along a linear stator of the electric linear motor in the elevator shaft, and determining at least one characteristic, such as a floor position or an air gap width of the electric linear motor, at a plurality of elevator shaft positions by the first movable unit, such as by a winding, a coil, or a sensor, during the moving. The method further comprises storing the determined at least one characteristic, and controlling moving of at least a second movable unit, such as comprising another of the elevator cars or a second motor unit, by utilizing the stored at least one characteristic.

Method for operating an elevator and elevator

The invention relates to a method for operating an elevator installed in connection with a building, particularly a high rise elevator, in which method the expected rope sway is monitored using building acceleration data obtained by means of a sensor to calculate a building sway, and whereby based on the building sway and the position of an elevator car a rope sway is estimated, which rope sway is compared with a threshold value to determine excessive rope sway and to deduct operation measures for the elevator in order to counteract a determined excessive rope sway. According to the invention a succession of following steps is performed: This leads to an early detection of a possible excessive rope sway happening in the future in course of servicing elevator calls by the allocated elevator car.

According to an aspect, there is provided a method for elevator call allocation in an elevator system. The method comprises receiving charge information associated with an energy storage of an elevator car from each of a plurality of elevator cars of the elevator system; receiving an elevator call to a floor providing a charging arrangement for the energy storages; and allocating the elevator call to an elevator car of the plurality of elevator cars at least partly based on the charge information received from each of the plurality of elevator cars.

According to an aspect, there is provided an elevator car parking brake comprising brake pads and an actuator configured to move the brake pads with respect to a guide rail. The elevator car parking brake further comprises levers, each having an associated brake pad; and at least one screw associated with the actuator and rotatably fixed to at least one lever via at least one attaching member. In a braking operation, the actuator is configured to rotate the at least one screw in a first direction with respect to the at least one attaching member, thus causing the levers with the brake pads to move towards the guide rail. In a brake release operation, the actuator is configured to rotate the at least one screw in a second direction with respect to the at least one attaching member, thus causing the levers with the brake pads to move away from the guide rail.

Elevator car parking brake

The invention relates to an elevator apparatus, comprising: a shaft, an elevator car vertically movable in the shaft, one or more ropes connected with the car, and a controller for controlling movement of the car. In order to detect sway in one or more elevator ropes connected with the car, the apparatus comprises at least one sensor unit arranged in the elevator shaft to detect sway and to produce a control signal indicating to the controller the detected sway. The controller compares the detected sway to a predetermined limit and prevents movement of the elevator car when sway reaches the predetermined limit.

According to an aspect, there is provided an elevator car parking brake comprising a brake carrier having a first plate and a second plate, the plates being spaced from each other and positioned to enable a guide rail to travel within the space between the plates, a caliper movably connected to the brake carrier, brake pads, and an actuator configured to move the brake pads against a guide rail in a braking operation. The elevator car parking brake further comprises at least one first compression spring arranged between the first plate of the brake carrier and a brake pad directly associated with the actuator; and at least one second compression spring arranged between the second plate of the brake carrier and the caliper, the first and second compression springs being configured to keep the brake pads substantially centered with respect to the brake carrier.

A method for controlling movement of an elevator car includes driving the car vertically to a landing; activating a park brake; and holding the car immovable with the park brake. The holding includes compressing a guide rail by compression members with a first compression force; opening a door for allowing loading and/or unloading the car; maintaining the door open for allowing loading and/or unloading the car while the car is held immovable; and starting closing movement of the door. After the starting closing movement of the door, relieving the brake for allowing the elevator car to start to move vertically. The relieving includes reducing the compression force of the brake, to be smaller than the first compression force, such that the compression members start sliding vertically against the guide rail; maintaining compression with a smaller compression force than the first compression force, allowing the compression members to continue to slide vertically against the guide rail; and thereafter removing the compression.

Modern elevators involve a plurality of ropes and wheels for ropes in a variety of different functions related to the operation and security of an elevator. The wearing of a rope and a wheel may be inspected by scanning a profile of a wheel or ropes on a wheel. When a rope or a wheel is worn the profile will be lower than in the normal situation. Depending on the difference to the normal situation an appropriate action may be taken.

Rope and rope groove monitoring

An elevator including a hoistway, an elevator car vertically movable in the hoistway, a rope connected to the elevator car movably together with the elevator car, a guide for guiding the rope along a path and a device that determines a position of the elevator car. The device includes an elongated code mark pattern provided on the rope, one or more sensors mounted beside the rope for sensing code marks of the code mark pattern, and an analyzer connected with the a plurality of sensors. The one or more sensors sense code marks of the code mark pattern passing by them when the rope moves along its path, and the analyzer determines the current position of the elevator car based on code marks sensed by the one or more sensors during movement of the rope.

The safety circuit includes a safety switch or a series circuit of safety switches, which includes an input for an electrical safety circuit signal as well as an output, in which the electrical safety circuit signal being supplied to the input is present when all the safety switches are closed. The safety circuit also includes a cable including an optical fiber as well as a transmitter circuit for the optical signal, the output of which circuit is connected to the cable including an optical fiber. The input of the transmitter circuit is connected to the output of the aforementioned safety switch or of the series circuit of safety switches, and the transmitter circuit is configured to transmit in the optical fiber of the cable the safety circuit signal that is present in the output of the safety switch or of the series circuit of safety switches.
