A display device includes laser light sources of different colours and at least one light guide. The at least one light guide includes a light outlet including a plurality of exit portions, and is controllable to sequentially guide light rays emitted by the laser light sources towards different exit portions of the light outlet. A pixel of an image is displayed by: (i) determining a corresponding exit portion, based on a pixel location of the pixel in the image; (ii) controlling the laser light sources to emit light rays having a colour and an intensity representative of the pixel, based on intensity values of different colour components of the pixel; and (iii) controlling the at least one light guide to guide said light rays towards the corresponding exit portion from which the light rays exit.

Display having controllable laser light sources and controllable light guide

A backlight unit for a liquid crystal display device includes an array of light-emitting elements. Each element includes a light source configured to emit light laterally relative to an optical axis of the backlight unit. A collimator is arranged on an optical path of emitted light rays in at least one direction to collimate the light rays. A first prism is positioned after the collimator to reflect a portion of the collimated light rays with one polarization orientation along the optical axis and transmit another portion with the opposite polarization orientation. A half-wave plate, arranged after the first prism, rotates the polarization of the transmitted light. A second prism, positioned after the half-wave plate, reflects the rotated light along the optical axis.

Uniformly polarized backlight

A display device includes a light-emitting panel comprising a plurality of pixels, wherein a given pixel comprises sub-pixels of at least two different colours (R, G, B, W) that are arranged sequentially along a first direction (A-B, H-I, M-N, K-L, Y-Z, U-V). The display device further includes a lenticular array arranged on an optical path of the light-emitting panel, the lenticular array including a plurality of lenticular lenses, wherein a longitudinal axis (X-Y) of a given lenticular lens aligns with the first direction. A processor is configured to generate drive signals for the plurality of pixels, based on a light field image to be displayed and to drive the plurality of pixels using the drive signals to display the light field image.

A light guiding arrangement adapted to guide light along a deflection light path, the light guiding arrangement comprising a housing, wherein the housing comprises a light entering area; a light escaping area adapted to transmit guided light to an image sensor; a first lens arrangement arranged in between the light entering area and the light escaping area; and one or more light deflection elements arranged in between the light entering area and the light escaping area. The one or more light deflection elements are adapted to form the deflection light path in between the light entering area and the light escaping area. The housing is formed by two or more operatively interconnected components configured to deform the housing.

Light guiding arrangement and electronic device comprising such arrangement

The imaging apparatus comprises a retractable structure with active and inactive positions. An outermost lens group and a lens group actuator are movable along an optical axis. In the inactive position the lens group and the lens group actuator reside close to an image sensor. The lens group actuator is positioned to the same level as the image sensor. In the active position the outermost lens group and the lens group actuator are further from the image sensor along the optical axis. The retractable structure may protrude from the device, covering the imaging apparatus. In one example the structure is reversed, the image sensor protrudes from the device while the outermost lens group is fixed to the device body.

Imaging apparatus

The lens arrangement has at least two lenses, wherein a first lens may be used for autofocus and optical image stabilization. The first lens is tilted to compensate for the shaking movement of the hand-held device and to stabilize the image to be captured on the image plane. The tilt action may occur in two degrees of freedom, wherein an actuator causes the first lens to tilt around a pivot. A second lens is a field flattener lens that compensates for the error caused by the difference between the image plane and the focus plane. The field flattener lens causes the focal plane of the first lens to lie in the image plane when the first lens is in a tilted position.

An electronic device comprises a camera and a retaining member. The camera includes an objective portion configured to collect light from a subject, a sensor portion reversibly separable from the objective portion, an alignment-sensing system configured to sense a state of alignment between the objective portion and the sensor portion, an actuator configured to move the objective or sensor portion, and a computer configured to control the actuator responsive to output of the alignment-sensing system, so as to bring the objective and sensor portions into alignment. The retaining member is configured to couple the objective portion to the sensor portion when the objective and sensor portions are aligned and when the objective portion is separated from the sensor portion.

Split-camera autoalignment

An electronic device comprises a camera and a retaining member. The camera includes an objective portion configured to collect light from a subject, a sensor portion reversibly separable from the objective portion, and a computer configured to return an indication of alignment of the objective and sensor portions based on output of one or more optical sensor elements of the sensor portion. The retaining member is configured to couple the objective portion to the sensor portion when the objective and sensor portions are aligned and also when the objective portion is separated from the sensor portion.

The imaging apparatus comprises a retractable structure with active and inactive positions. In the inactive position the lens group resides in proximity to an image sensor, and in the active position the lens group resides at a predetermined distance from the image sensor. The lens group is moved between active and inactive positions by at least one actuator. The imaging apparatus also includes a field flattening lens with a concave shape on the side opposite to the image sensor and facing the moving lens group.

An apparatus comprises a processing unit configured to obtain preliminary image data of a preliminary digital image frame captured by a digital image sensor having comprising a sensor layer comprising a pixel array; a mask layer comprising an array of micro apertures positioned within aperture sites corresponding the positioning and size of the light sensitive pixels, and a lens layer comprising an array of micro lenses positioned within lens sites. The micro apertures are positioned in the aperture sites at aperture positions defined by an aperture density function. The processing unit is further configured to obtain the aperture density function; and a position difference between prevailing positioning of the mask layer in relation to the lens layer from a reference relative positioning thereof; and to reconstruct, on the basis of the preliminary image data, the position difference, and the aperture density function, an output digital image frame.

According to an embodiment a device comprises: an image sensor, an optical system comprising at least one lens, and an infrared, IR cut-off filter, transmission characteristics of the IR cut-off filter comprising a ripple with low transmission between wavelengths corresponding to blue and green.

Infrared cut-off filter

A mobile or portable device comprises an illuminating arrangement comprising a light source, and an amplitude splitting interferometer configured to form an interferogram of light emitted by the light source. The illuminating arrangement is configured to illuminate a target region lying at a distance of at least 10 cm from the device by the interferogram, thereby projecting a structured light pattern onto the target region. The device further comprises an image sensor configured to capture at least one digital image frame of the target region illuminated by the interferogram, and a processing unit configured to obtain image data of the at least one digital image frame, and determine depth of at least one object location in the target region relative to a reference location on the basis of the obtained image data.

Depth sensing using structured illumination

A near-eye optical display system utilized in augmented reality devices includes a see-through waveguide display having optical elements configured for in-coupling virtual images from an imager, exit pupil expansion, and out-coupling virtual images with expanded pupil to the user's eye. The near-eye optical display system further includes a curved two-sided array of electrically-activated tunable liquid crystal (LC) microlenses that is located between the waveguide and the user's eye. The LC microlenses are distributed in layers on each side of the two-sided array. Each pixel in the waveguide display is mapped to an LC microlens in the array, and multiple nearby pixels may be mapped to the same LC microlens. A region of the waveguide display that the user is gazing upon is detected and the LC microlens that is mapped to that region may be electrically activated to thereby individually shape the wavefront of each pixel in a virtual image.
