In a separator for separating a stripping sheet from a composite film formed by a base sheet and the stripping sheet which are superposed with each other, the composite film is first so carried and arranged that its forward end portion extends over a separating clearance formed in a support, and then a blade is pushed into the separating clearance for thrusting the composite film into the separating clearance in a bent state. Thus, the forward end portion of the composite film is separated (i.e., delaminated). Thereafter the base sheet and the stripping sheet are independently sucked/held on the delaminated forward end portion, and the stripping sheet is completely separated from the base sheet while widening the space between the held positions of these sheets. Due to the aforementioned structure and operation, the composite film can be separated in a simple structure with minimum force, and the separator can be reduced in size and power.

An optical system for use in a flying spot scanning apparatus. The optical system includes a laser tube, an optoelectronic integrated circuit which divides a laser beam into a plurality of beams and individually modulates the beams, a focusing lens for focusing the beams, a deflection mirror for reciprocatingly deflecting the beams to scan a recording medium, a concave mirror receiving the beams thereon, and a recording medium disposed optically behind the concave mirror. The recording medium is fed in a predetermined direction while the beams are scanned across the recording medium.

A pattern shaped and sized to fit adjacent the inner cylindrical surface of a transparent scanner drum, of a drum-type image scanning system is oriented to display at least one line parallel to the axis of rotation of the drum. Disclosed is an improved transmission illumination device for use in a picture scanning device such as an electronic picture scanner which can illuminate an annular region around an illuminated spot. This annular illuminated spot is produced by using an annular convex lens as part of an optical system. Since the area surrounding the illuminated spot is also illuminated, finding a desired spot on an original picture is greatly facilitated. Having an illuminated annular region does not create any problem which may arise from flare light if an iris diaphragm is provided in a light receiving head for the exclusion of the light emitted from the illuminated annular area.
