Hydraulic cylinders are provided in a housing so as to be opposed to work rolls and backup rolls. Before a front end portion of a rollable material is engaged between the work rolls, the working oil pressure of the hydraulic cylinders is set at a high pressure value to make a pressing force on roll chocks high. After the rollable material is completely engaged between the work rolls, the working oil pressure of the hydraulic cylinders is set at a low pressure value to make the pressing force on the roll chocks low.

Rolling mill and method for operating same

A screw down cylinder, an upper backup roll chock, and an upper work roll chock are pressed against an upper crosshead by hydraulic cylinders, and an upper roll cross mechanism is actuated, whereby the upper backup roll chock (upper backup roll), the upper work roll chock (upper work roll), and the screw down device (screw down cylinders) can be synchronously moved in the same direction via the upper crosshead.

Rolling mill and rolling method

A roll changing apparatus for a four-high rolling mill comprises rails, provided in a rolling mill stand and on a work side of the rolling mill, for incoming and outgoing of a work roll assembly and a backup roll assembly, and a pusher, provided on a drive side or the work side of the rolling mill, for roll admission and withdrawal for both of work rolls and backup rolls. The roll changing apparatus can be modified into a side shift type roll changing apparatus with ease, at a low cost, and in a short time.

Roll changing apparatus and roll changing method for rolling mill

Work rolls opposed to each other have shafts rotatably supported by upper and lower work roll chocks of a housing, a screw down device for applying a predetermined pressure to the upper work roll is provided in an upper portion of the housing, screw mechanisms capable of thrusting the work roll chocks in a horizontal direction are provided on an entry side or a delivery side of the housing, hydraulic cylinder mechanisms capable of thrusting the work roll chocks in the horizontal direction are provided on the other side, and contraction portions are provided in hydraulic supply and discharge pipes of the hydraulic cylinder mechanisms.

Rolling mill

An induction heating device is disclosed for heating a rolling roller by induction heating so as to equalize the diameter of the rolling roller. The device includes an induction heater and a means for moving the induction heater to a portion of the roller surface to be heated, while the distance from the induction heater to the surface is maintained constant. An electric power supply means supplies electric power to the induction heater, and a means is provided for adjusting the quantity of heat to be produced by the induction heater according to the quantity of heat that is required by the portion of the roller to be heated. The heat quantity adjusting means includes a frequency control means for controlling the frequency of electric power supplied to the induction heater, wherein the frequency control means adjusts the frequency of electric power within a predetermined frequency range to a frequency which is suitable to produce the quantity of heat required by the portion of the rolling roller to be heated. The greater the amount of heating that is required, the higher the frequency utilized. Preferably, the frequency is adjusted within a range of from about 25 to about 200 kHz.

Induction heating device for rolling roller and method of induction heating

In a roll changing apparatus of a rolling mill, a stationary roll changing table is provided on a front surface of a work side of the rolling mill. Pull-out rails and upwardly and downwardly movable shift rails are provided on the roll changing table. Shift blocks are provided for detachably attaching to a work roll assembly which has been pulled out, to move the work roll assembly sideways in a shifting direction. Only the work roll assembly to be pulled out can be shifted easily, and replaced with a new work roll assembly without the use of an elaborate foundation structure. Thus, work rolls can be changed swiftly.

Roll changing apparatus of rolling mill

A plurality of finishing mills for finish rolling a rolled material are located in a row to configure a finishing mill group. First to third surface coolers for cooling surfaces of the rolled material are located on an entry side of each of first, second and third finishing mills of the finishing mill group, and the amount of cooling water jetted at the rolled material by each surface cooler under a command of a controller is set at 4,000 liters/min.multidot.m.sup.2, whereby the thickness of scale is restricted to 5 .mu.m or less.
