An object of the present invention is to provide a golf ball excellent in flying performance, in particular, to provide a golf ball traveling a great flight distance. The present invention provides a golf ball having a spherical core and at least one cover layer covering the spherical core, wherein the spherical core is formed from a rubber composition containing (a) a base rubber, (b) an &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-unsaturated carboxylic acid having 3 to 8 carbon atoms and/or a metal salt thereof as a co-crosslinking agent, (c) a crosslinking initiator, and (d1) an aromatic carboxylic acid or (d2) an aromatic carboxylic acid salt, provided that the rubber composition further contains (e) a metal compound in the case of containing only (b) the &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-unsaturated carboxylic acid having 3 to 8 carbon atoms as the co-crosslinking agent.

An object of the present invention is to provide a golf ball showing a low spin rate on driver shots and an excellent shot feeing. The present invention provides a golf ball having a spherical core and at least one cover covering the spherical core, wherein the spherical core is formed from a rubber composition containing: (a) a base rubber, (b) an &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-unsaturated carboxylic acid having 3 to 8 carbon atoms and/or a metal salt thereof as a co-crosslinking agent, (c) a crosslinking initiator, and at least one compound of (d) mercaptobenzoic acids and/or salts thereof, provided that the rubber composition further contains (e) a metal compound in the case of containing only (b) the &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-unsaturated carboxylic acid having 3 to 8 carbon atoms as the co-crosslinking agent, and the spherical core has a hardness difference (Hs&#x2212;Ho) between a surface hardness (Hs) and a center hardness (Ho) thereof of 20 or more in JIS-C hardness.

An object of the present invention is to provide a golf ball having a great flight distance on driver shots. The present invention provides a golf ball having a spherical core and at least one cover layer covering the spherical core, wherein when JIS-C hardness, which is measured at nine points obtained by dividing a radius of the spherical core into equal parts having 12.5% intervals therebetween, is plotted against distance (%) from a core center, the spherical core is such that Rof a linear approximation curve obtained from the least square method is 0.95 or higher, and a hardness difference between a core surface hardness and a core central hardness is 15 or higher in JIS-C hardness.

An object of the present invention is to provide a golf ball having high resilience. The present invention provides a golf ball having a constituting member, wherein at least a part of the constituting member is formed from a rubber composition containing (a) a base rubber, (b) a co-crosslinking agent, (c) a crosslinking initiator, and (d) an organic sulfur compound, the organic sulfur compound being derivatives of thiophenols and disulfide with a strong electron withdrawing substituent.

An object of the present invention is to provide a golf ball having high resilience. The gist of the present invention resides in selecting an organic sulfur compound used for a golf ball rubber composition containing (a) a base rubber, (b) a co-crosslinking agent, (c) a crosslinking initiator, and (d) the organic sulfur compound from organic sulfur compounds having specific structures such that a sum of substituent constants of the substituents X in a structure represented by the following formula (4) is 0.2 or more and SP value of the structure represented by the following formula (4) is in a range from 19.0 (J/cm)to 24.0 (J/cm)and using the same.

An object of the present invention is to provide an environmentally safe golf ball having excellent resilience. The present invention provides a golf ball having constituting members, wherein at least a part of the constituting members is formed from a rubber composition containing (a) a base rubber, (b) a co-crosslinking agent, (c) a crosslinking initiator, and (d) an organic sulfur compound, wherein the organic sulfur compound includes a disubstituted compound of thiophenol, disulfide and/or thiophenol metal salt with Br, F or CFonly at ortho positions.

An object of the present invention is to improve the abrasion resistance of a golf ball that uses a polyurethane as a resin component for a cover. Another object of the present invention is to improve the shot feeling of a golf ball that uses a polyurethane as a resin component for a cover. The present invention provides a golf ball comprising a core; and a cover covering the core, wherein the cover contains a polyurethane elastomer as a resin component, and the polyurethane elastomer contains a polyol component and a polyisocyanate component and does not contain a chain extender.

The object of the present invention is to provide a golf ball having excellent scuff resistance and spin performance. The present invention provides a golf ball which comprises a core and a cover covering the core. The cover contains a polyurethane as a resin component, and the polyurethane is obtained by employing a multimodal polyol having multimodality in molecular weight distribution, as a high-molecular-weight polyol component constituting the polyurethane.

A golf ball which has excellent abrasion-resistance and spin performance is provided. The golf ball of the present invention includes a core and a cover covering the core. The cover contains, as a resin component, polyurethane which is obtained using, as a polyisocyanate component constituting the polyurethane, 4,4'-dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate having a mole ratio ((B)/(A)) of non-cis-structure molecule (B) to cis-structure molecule (A) in a range from 3/7 to 9/1.

The present invention aims to improve spin performance and abrasion resistance for a golf ball having a cover using a nonionic polyurethane as a resin component. The golf ball of the present invention is a golf ball including a core and a cover covering the core and in which the cover contains a nonionic polyurethane as a resin component and the nonionic polyurethane has a hard segment content of 24.5% to 34.7% by mass.

An object of the present invention is to improve abrasion-resistance and spin performance of a golf ball having a polyurethane cover. The golf ball of the present invention is a golf ball having a core and a cover covering the core. The cover contains a layered silicate and a polyurethane resin having a secondary or a tertiary amine structure in a molecular chain thereof. In the present invention, the polyurethane resin used as a resin component constituting the cover has a secondary or tertiary amine structure in a molecular chain. Thus, it has a strong interaction with the layered silicate, and a reinforcing effect of the filler becomes even higher. As a result, abrasion-resistance and spin performance of the resultant cover are improved.
