A variable valve mechanism for an internal combustion engine includes a rocker arm, a swing cam, and a transmission member which is interposed between the swing cam and a cam and transmits the displacement of the cam to the swing cam. The rocker arm is provided with a rolling roller member which includes a inner ring, an outer ring, and a plurality of rolling elements accommodated between the inner ring and the outer ring. The outer ring contacts with the swing cam. At least one of a first transmission part, in which the displacement of the cam is transmitted from the cam to the transmission member, and a second transmission part, in which the displacement of the cam is transmitted from the transmission member to the swing cam, includes a sliding roller member, wherein a sliding bearing mechanism is constituted between the sliding roller member and the support part.

Variable valve mechanism for internal combustion engine

The invention provides a variable valve train for an internal combustion engine, in which attachment and detachment of a rotation drive source can be performed without an affect on a transmission mechanism and environment. The variable train system comprises a variable valve system that is fixed to a cylinder head and implements variable control on valve drive outputs according to displacement that is inputted to a control input member; a rotation drive source that outputs control rotation for setting valve properties from an output shaft; and a transmission mechanism that is located on the side of the variable valve system, receives the control rotation outputted from the output shaft with an input shaft, and transmits the control rotation to the control input member, wherein the rotation drive source is detachably fixed to an engine body; the output shaft of the rotation drive source is coupled to the input shaft by using a coupling that moves the output shaft toward the input shaft and disengageably couples the output shaft to the input shaft; and the coupling transmits the rotation of the output shaft to the input shaft while allowing misalignment between the output shaft and the input shaft.

A valve unit of an internal combustion engine is accommodated in a space between a cylinder head and a rocker cover. The valve unit comprises a camshaft, a variable valve operating mechanism, a sensor, and a retaining member. The camshaft is provided with a cam for each cylinder. The variable valve operating mechanism receives a displacement of the cam, outputs a valve drive output, and continuously variable-controls the valve drive output in accordance with a rotational displacement of a control shaft provided substantially in parallel with the camshaft. The sensor detects the rotational displacement of the control shaft. The retaining member retains the camshaft, the variable valve operating mechanism, and the sensor. The retaining member expose the sensor to the out side of the rocker cover thereby to fix the camshaft, the variable valve operating mechanism, and the sensor to the cylinder head.
