A spark ignition timing control system for an automotive vehicle internal combustion engine utilizes a first sensor for detecting engine speed, a second sensor for detecting engine knocking and a third sensor for detecting transmission upshifting. The control system operates in response to the first, second and third signals to retard the spark advance angle to reduce knocking due to change in engine speed upon engine upshift.

Spark ignition timing control system for an internal combustion engine

A spark timing control system for an internal combustion engine features an ignition device, a power increase detector, a control device, and a temperature detector. The ignition device produces a spark in a combustion chamber of the engine. The power increase detector senses an increase in the output power required of the engine. The control device is connected to the ignition device for controlling timing of the spark, and is also connected to the power increase detector for retarding the spark timing in terms of engine crank angle when the engine is required to increase its output power. The temperature detector senses the temperature of engine coolant and suspends the retardation of the spark timing due to the engine power increase in response to the temperature of engine coolant.

Spark timing control system for an internal combustion engine

In an evaporative emission control system of a motor vehicle, a two way valve is provided for connecting the canister with the air-fuel mixture intake tube of the engine when assuming a first position and connecting the canister with the clean side of the air cleaner when assuming a second position. The two way valve assumes the first position when the interior condition of the fuel tank does not tend to saturate the vapor adsorbing power of the canister, and assumes the second position when the interior condition of the fuel tank tends to saturate the vapor adsorbing power of the canister.

Evaporative emission control system

A carburetor for an internal combustion engine includes a power boost device for boosting engine output during acceleration or at high speeds which adjusts its air-fuel ratio and/or boost timing according to the alcohol content of the fuel. The power device includes a nitrile rubber swelling member which swells in accordance with fuel alcohol content and which is used to adjust the fuel flow aperture of a power jet. In addition, a second swelling member can be used as a linkage between an intake manifold-vacuum-responsive piston and a metering valve to adjust the timing or threshold vacuum level at which the metering valve begins to operate.

Carburetor and method for an internal combustion engine

A fuel supply system for an injection-type internal combustion engine using a gasoline or alcohol blended gasoline as a fuel. In addition to a conventional fuel supply system there is provided a fuel temperature detector which detects and signals the fuel temperature increases and exceeds a predetermined value and a fuel pressure regulating means responsive to the fuel temperature detector for raising the fuel pressure within the fuel supply line applied to each fuel injector above a constant value regulated according to the pressure difference between the fuel pressure within the fuel supply line and the intake manifold vacuum pressure so as to prevent the fuel supply line from being clogged due to the occurrence of vapor lock at the time when the engine is started at a high fuel temperature or when the engine runs at a low speed under a high fuel temperature.

Fuel supply system for an injection-type internal combustion engine

The air-fuel ratio for an internal combustion engine is controlled at the three stages: (A) when the engine temperature is lower than a first predetermined value, the air-fuel ratio is controlled only by a choke valve, (B) when the engine is at a temperature of the first predetermined value to a second predetermined value, the air-fuel ratio is controlled according to the output signals of engine temperature detecting means, and (C) when the engine temperature is higher than the second predetermined value, the air-fuel ratio is controlled according to the signals from air-fuel ratio detecting means.
