A measuring instrument includes a detector that outputs a measured value, a digital display unit, an analog display unit having a plurality of display segments, and a display controller. The display controller includes: a tolerance range display unit that lights or blinks display segments corresponding to a preset tolerance range relative to a preset value; a first determiner that obtains a difference between the present value and a present measured value and determines whether the difference is within an analog display range wider than the tolerance range; a difference display unit that lights a display segment corresponding to the last one or the last two digits of the present measured value when the first determiner determines that the difference is within the analog display range; a second determiner that determines whether the difference is within the tolerance range; and an acceptance or rejection display unit that displays a result determined by the second determiner.

Embodiments of the invention prevent demagnetization or degaussing of recorded magnetizations, even if a stray field is applied. In one embodiment, an output of a read head including a magneto-resistive effect element is inputted to a stray field detector through a DC amplifier and a DC filter. Data byte errors are detected by a comparator and classified into errors for respective interleaves, and the classified errors are counted by counters in an error count block. An incident surface receives light from a stick-shaped light source. The warp preventing means comprises a long and narrow zonal thin plate in which two or more beading processes are performed.

The proposed magnetic storage apparatus has the following features. The frequency at which data is recorded is selected to be 45 MHz. The thickness, resistivity and relative permeability of the magnetic film of which the magnetic poles of the magnetic head used in the apparatus are made are designed considering the eddy current loss. Also, the relation of &mgr;d /&rgr;&lE;500 is satisfied where d (&mgr;m) is the thickness of the magnetic film of which the magnetic poles of the magnetic head are made, &rgr; (&mgr;&OHgr;-cm) is the resistivity, and &mgr; is the relative permeability in a low-frequency range. Under these conditions, the amount of attenuation of recording magnetic field is reduced to 10% or below, and problems of writing blur and overwrite value variation which occur as the recording frequency changes can be solved. Moreover, the media data rate is 15 megabytes per sec., and the areal data-recording density is 500 megabits per square inch or more.

The present invention provides an analog quantity display method of counting displacement of a probe disposed in contact with an object to be measured and analog-displaying the obtained count value by an analog display section as an analog quantity. If a peak value of the count value exceeds a possible analog-display range of the analog display section, an offset provided for the analog-displayed count value is updated in such a manner that the peak value is displayed within the possible analog-display range. Further, an analog quantity measuring method is provided, which comprises counting displacement of the probe, compares the obtained count value with a peak value of the count value, holds the count value as a new peak value depending upon a result of the comparison, and executes the comparison and the holding of the peak value again if the difference between the present peak value and the present count value exceeds a predetermined value. The analog quantity display and measuring methods are applicable to a digital/analog display type measuring instrument comprising a counter for counting the displacement of the probe in contact with the measured object, a digital display section for digitally displaying the count value, and an analog display section located adjacent to the digital display section, for displaying the count value as the bar graph comprising the large number of analog bars arranged in juxtaposition in one direction.

A multi-pattern is formed to have a plurality of read/write elements on a plane. A medium is formed on a single crystal of Si substrate. A motion of the head relative to the medium is made a simple harmonic motion to form linear recorded bits. This allows fabricating a storage system which provides features of small size, high recording density, high transfer rate, and short access time all at once. The recording density accomplished by the small storage system is extremely high, and may be as high as 10 gigabits per square inch.
