To provide magnetic composite particles which can be separated from a sample solution in a short period of time using magnetism, and furthermore, have an excellent dispersion stability in the sample solution, which are magnetic composite particles in which an outer shell is formed on surfaces of core particles containing an inorganic oxide or a polymer, wherein the outer shell comprises magnetic nanoparticles and a silicon compound, the value of the volume average particle diameter (dTEM) of the magnetic composite particles measured by a transmission electron microscope is 30 nm or more to 210 nm or less, and the value of (dDLS)/(dTEM) which is the ratio of the value of the particle diameter (dDLS) of the particles measured by a dynamic light scattering method and the value of the volume average particle diameter (dTEM) is 2.0 or less.

Provided is a polychloroprene latex extremely superior in adhesion properties. According to the present invention, chloroprene or a mixture of chloroprene and a monomer copolymerizable with chloroprene is polymerized in the presence of a surfactant in an aqueous medium, in which the surfactant's concentration is lower than its critical micelle concentration (CMC) to obtain a polychloroprene latex. The polychloroprene latex produced according to the present invention is extremely superior in adhesion properties and others and give a smaller amount of deposits during production.

Although nanoparticles capable of providing an extremely large active surface area have highly marked advantages, when a PEFC electrode utilizing nanoparticles is used for a prolonged period of time, the catalyst nanoparticles on carrier of the PEFC electrode because of the nano-size thereof migrate and aggregate together to result in a rapid loss of activity. Thus, there is a demand for inhibition of the above aggregation so as to prevent any drop of catalytic activity. According to the present invention the aggregation of nanoparticles can be inhibited by catalyst nanoparticles containing Pt wherein a porous matter containing an inorganic oxide is disposed on the surface of the catalyst nanoparticles. When use is made of nanoparticles whose surface has undergone specific modification, excellent activity can be realized. Therefore, there are provided surface-modified nanoparticles and catalyst and further a PEFC electrode utilizing these nanoparticles.
