An apparatus for effecting, on a metallic member, an electrolytic process such as descaling, electrolytic acid cleaning, passivation, electrolytic polishing, coloring or plating. The apparatus comprises a rotatable cylindrical electrode arranged to oppose the member to be processed, with a gap between them, a paste electrolyte supply device for introducing a paste electrolyte into the gap between the cylindrical electrode and the metallic member, a pad disposed on the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical electrode and capable of retaining by impregnation the paste electrolyte supplied by the paste electrolyte supply device; an electrical power supply device for causing an electric current to flow between the cylindrical electrode and the member across the paste electrolyte; and a moving device for effecting relative movement between said metallic member and said cylindrical electrode.

Electrolytic processing apparatus for metallic members

A process for operating blast furnaces is disclosed, which comprises assuming a plurality of reference spaces, each of which serves as a stacking space for burden material and is defined by a plurality of line segments having inclination angles .theta..sub.1 and .theta..sub.2 with respect to a horizontal line on a surface of a previously stacked burden, before a predetermined volume of the burden material is charged from a charging equipment; settling a newly stacked surface of the burden in one of the standard spaces in such a manner that the newly stacked surface consists of two line segments having inclination angle .theta..sub.1 and .theta..sub.2 with respect to the horizontal line and intersecting with a falling trajectory of the burden so that a space defined between the newly stacked surface and the previously stacked surface corresponds to the predetermined volume of the burden material; and then charging the predetermined volume of the burden material from the charging equipment up to the position of the newly stacked surface on the previously stacked surface.

Process for blast furnace operation

A process for estimating a particle size segregation in a burden layer at a blast furnace top is disclosed, which comprises measuring a particle size distribution of a burden material before the charging and a layer thickness distribution of the burden layer after the charging, and estimating a particle size distribution at every position in the burden layer charged at the furnace top on the basis of the above measured values, charging conditions and furnace operating conditions according to a simulation model of particle size segregation.
