A rotary actuator is used in a shift-by-wire system for a vehicle. A speed reducer includes a ring gear and a sun gear and reduces a rotational speed of the motor. An output shaft outputs rotation of the motor at a reduced rotational speed by the speed reducer. A regulating pin is disposed in a fixing member and allows the sun gear to revolve around a rotational axis of the motor and to rotate about an eccentric axis. The regulating pin is a separate member from the fixing member. The regulating pin has a strength equal to or greater than a maximum torque reaction force received from the sun gear. A first difference in hardness between an engaging portion and the sun gear is set to be less than a second difference in hardness between the fixing member and the sun gear.

A rotary actuator is used in a shift-by-wire system for a vehicle. The actuator includes a motor, a controller, an upper case, a lower case, a case fastening member, and a board fixing member. The controller controls the motor. The upper case is made from resin and houses the controller. The lower case houses the motor together with the upper case. The case fastening member is made from metal and fastens the upper case and the lower case to each other. The board fixing member fixes a board of the controller to the case fastening member.

A rotary actuator includes a motor, an output shaft, and a speed reducer. The motor includes a motor shaft rotating about an axial direction. The output shaft is disposed in parallel with the motor shaft. The speed reducer reduces a rotational speed of the motor and transmits rotation of the motor at a reduced rotational speed to the output shaft. The speed reducer includes a parallel-shaft type reducer that has a drive gear on the motor shaft and a driven gear on the output shaft. One side and the other side in the axial direction are defined as a first side and a second side, respectively. The motor is located on the first side of the speed reducer in the axial direction. The driven gear includes a teeth portion having a gear end surface on the first side of the teeth portion. The motor includes a stator having a stator end surface on the second side of the stator. The gear end surface is located on the first side of the stator end surface in the axial direction.

A rotary actuator for use in a shift-by-wire system of a vehicle includes a motor, a controller for controlling the motor, and a case housing the motor and the controller. An upper case of the case includes a resin molded body, which integrally has a housing that houses the motor and a connector that is used for external connection, and a plurality of external connection terminals, which are embedded in the resin molded body and are capable of connecting the controller to an outside member. Each of the external connection terminals includes a base protruding into an installation space for a control board in a board extending direction, a bend bent from the base toward the control board, and a tip portion extending from the bend to the control board.

A rotary actuator for a shift-by-wire system of a vehicle includes a motor with a motor shaft, an output shaft disposed in parallel with the motor shaft, a speed-reducing mechanism configured to reduce a rotational speed of the motor and transmit the rotation of the motor to the output shaft, and a case housing the motor and the speed-reducing mechanism. The speed-reducing mechanism includes a first speed-reducing portion including a ring gear and a sun gear, and a second speed reducing portion including a drive gear and a driven gear. The stress releasing member includes at least one curved portion at which the stress releasing member is curved or bent.

A rotary actuator used in a shift-by-wire system of a vehicle includes: a motor; an output shaft arranged parallel to a rotation shaft of the motor; and a deceleration mechanism that decelerates rotation of the motor and transmits it to the output shaft. The deceleration mechanism includes a drive gear provided over a rotation axis of the rotation shaft and a driven gear provided over a rotation axis of the output shaft to mesh with the drive gear. The driven gear is a separate member from the output shaft and is loosely fitted to the output shaft.

A rotary actuator includes: an electric motor; a control unit, which is configured to control an operation of the electric motor; a case, which is made of resin and receives the electric motor; and a circuit-board fixture. The circuit-board fixture includes an insertion portion, which is embedded at an upper case segment of the case, and a fixation portion, which is made of metal and fixes a circuit board of the control unit.

A rotary actuator is used in a shift-by-wire system for a vehicle. The rotary actuator includes a motor, a controller, a housing, and a biasing member. The controller controls the motor. The housing supports a rotor assembly of the motor and holds the controller. The biasing member biases the rotor assembly in an axial direction to eliminate a thrust movement gap between the rotor assembly and the housing.

An actuator includes a manually operable portion that is operable to transmit rotation to an output shaft. The manually operable portion is provided such that the manually operable portion extends through a housing while at least a portion of the manually operable portion is exposed to an outside of the housing. In this way, even in a case where the actuator becomes inoperable, it is possible to change a shift range by rotating the output shaft through operation of the manually operable portion. It is only required to have a connection hole, which is conventionally provided at an outer wall of a transmission case, as a hole, which connects this rotary actuator to a shift range change mechanism. Therefore, it is sufficient to perform only a relatively small improvement, such as providing screw holes for fixing the actuator in a preexisting transmission.

An output shaft includes a shaft hole with which a shaft is fittable, rotates by torque output from a motor, and outputs torque to the shaft. A magnet holder includes a holder hole with which the shaft is fittable and is rotatable together with the shaft. A magnet is disposed on the magnet holder. An angle sensor is capable of detecting magnetic flux from the magnet and outputs a signal corresponding to a rotation angle of the magnet holder. A play amount between the shaft and the shaft hole is set to a first predetermined value or larger. A play amount between the shaft and the holder hole is set to a second predetermined value or smaller.

A rotary actuator includes a front housing, a middle housing, and a rear housing. The middle housing has an annular part, a front side extension part extending from the annular part toward the front housing, a rear side extension part extending from the annular part toward the rear housing, a plurality of front side convex parts projected from an outer circumference wall of the front side extension part outward in the radial direction to be in contact with an inner wall of the front housing, and a plurality of rear side convex parts projected from an inner circumference wall of the rear side extension part inward in the radial direction to be in contact with an outer edge part of the stator.

An output portion is formed integrally with an output gear made of a magnetic material and is rotated integrally with the output gear. A yoke is placed at the output gear and includes first and second yokes. An arcuate gap, which extends along an arc that is centered at a rotational center of the output gear, is formed between the first yoke and the second yoke. A magnet is installed between one end of the first yoke and one end of the second yoke. Another magnet is installed between another end of the first yoke and another end of the second yoke. A Hall IC is placed in the arcuate gap and is movable relative to the yoke. Primary holes are formed between the rotational center and the yoke such that the primary holes extend through the output gear in a plate thickness direction of the output gear.
