The present invention provides a valve timing control device that can suppress a leakage of noise to the outside of the device and can improve reliability without needlessly increasing the volume occupied by the device. There is provided a valve timing control device for an internal combustion engine, including a driving rotary body to which rotational force from a crankshaft is transmitted, a driven rotary body, an intermediate rotary body, a speed reduction mechanism, an electric motor, and a housing, wherein: the electric motor rotates relative to the camshaft and the housing; the valve timing control device further includes a current application switching mechanism which is provided inside the housing and which includes brushes to switch current application to a coil of the electric motor, and feeding mechanisms which are provided between the housing and an external device and which include brushes to apply a current from the external device to the current application switching mechanism; electromagnetic noise emission suppression means is provided on the power supply side of the brushes of the feeding mechanisms; and the brushes of these mechanisms are disposed apart from the rotational axis of the camshaft by substantially the same distance.

A valve timing control apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes a driving rotation member to which rotation of a crankshaft is transmitted, a driven rotation member coupled to a camshaft so as to be rotatable relative to the driving rotation member, an electric motor having a motor output shaft to cause rotation of the driven rotation member relative to the driving rotation member, a cover member arranged axially facing a front end portion of the motor output shaft and an electromagnetic induction type rotational angle detection mechanism disposed between the motor output shaft and the cover member so as to detect a rotational angle of the motor output shaft. The angle sensor includes a detected unit provided inside of a top end section of the motor output shaft and a detecting unit provided on the cover member so as to be opposed to the detected unit through a minute clearance. The power-feeding brush is located so as not to overlap with the detected portion in a vertically-upper direction from the detected portion.

An electric motor includes a motor casing formed with a shaft insertion hole and a motor output shaft extending in the shaft insertion hole and projecting to a speed reducing mechanism. An annular oil seal is disposed between the shaft insertion hole and the motor output shaft and the annular oil seal includes an annular seal retainer buried in the annular oil seal for reinforcement. A C-shaped stopper member extending circumferentially from a first end to a second end spaced from the first end, is held in a holding portion or a fitting groove of the shaft insertion hole, and arranged to prevent movement of the oil seal toward the speed reducing mechanism. The stopper member includes a plurality of beam segments confronting the seal retainer from an axial direction of the motor output shaft.
