One object is to provide a double bearing reel that allows a fingertip gripping the reel body to be retained well in reeling out and in a fishing line thereby to provide better grip retention of the reel body. A double bearing reel according to the present invention includes a reel body having left and right side plates. A concave finger retainer is provided in an edge of at least one of outer circumferential surfaces of the left and right side plates to retain a thick of a fingertip of a hand gripping and holding the reel body.

A reel body of a double bearing reel according to the invention has a left side plate that has a circular shape as viewed laterally and is situated further from a handle. An outer diameter of a right frame body that serves as another side plate situated closer to the handle is larger than an outer diameter of the left side plate. The reel body includes one or more connecting members that connect the left side plate and the right frame body. Among the connecting members, at least the connecting member that connects the side plates in front of the spool has a planar outer surface facing away from the spool and a curved inner surface facing the spool. The inner surface is formed to be convex outward, and the connecting member is connected to the left side plate through an arc-like bowed portion.

One object is to maintain the moving performance of a power transmission member for a long period and maintain excellent operation of a clutch mechanism. In accordance with one aspect, the clutch mechanism includes a power transmission member supported by a bearing so as to be rotatable and movable in an axial direction of the spool shaft, the power transmission member being switched between a line-winding state wherein the power transmission member is moved toward the spool and transmits a rotational drive force from the handle to the spool shaft and a free-spool state wherein the power transmission member is moved opposite to the spool and shuts off the rotational drive force.

A fishing reel comprises a cylindrical handle shaft that rotatably retains a high-speed driving gear and a low-speed driving gear. Inside the handle shaft, a switching shaft is fitted slidably along the axial direction. The fishing reel includes a switching member inside the handle shaft that is selectively engageable with the high-speed driving gear for high-speed winding or the low-speed driving gear for low-speed winding in response to an axial movement of the switching shaft. The switching member having at its one end adjacent to the handle a projection extending inside the handle shaft.

A fishing reel includes: a reel body attachable to a fishing rod; a spool rotatably supported by the reel body; a handle disposed at a side portion of the reel body for rotating the spool to winding a fishing line on the spool; and an auxiliary operating member for auxiliary winding the fishing line on the spool provided at a position in which the auxiliary operating member can be operated by a finger of an angler's hand holding the fishing rod to which the reel body is attached.

A fishing reel having side plates which can be attached to and detached from frames of a reel body with higher efficiency. In this fishing reel, a retaining ring is fitted into a fitting groove that is formed on a receiving portion of a left-hand side plate, whereupon the movable range of a left-hand ring member is restricted by the retaining ring that partially projects from the fitting groove. Thus, the ring member can always be supported for rotation on the receiving portion of the left-hand side plate without being disengaged from it.

A fishing reel is provided which is capable of preventing noise and rapid change in the rotational speed of the spool which take place when a casting operation is performed, controlling backlash of a fishing line by a person even if the person is not skilled in the casting operation and maintaining the distance for which the tackle can be thrown. A double bearing type reel includes: a reel main body having a pair of side plates; a spool rotatably supported between the side plates; and a fishline guide device reciprocatingly provided between the side plates extending in front of the spool, said fishline guide device winding a fishline parallel around the spool. The fishline guide device includes a fishline guide portion having a lower portion which guides the fishline in a fishline take-up state and an upper portion which guides the fishline in a fishline play-out state. The upper portion is larger in width than the lower portion. The fishline guide device may have a pair of arm portions movably supported to the side plates by outer ends thereof.
