A method of forming a thin film magnetic head, including forming a first magnetic layer, forming a second magnetic layer as a magnetic flux passage in combination with the first magnetic layer, and forming a laminate structure body between the first magnetic layer and the second magnetic layer. The forming of the laminate structure body includes forming a third magnetic layer, a fourth magnetic layer and a non-magnetic conductive layer between the third magnetic layer and the fourth magnetic layer, projecting the laminate structure body more toward an air bearing surface than a projection of the first magnetic layer and the second magnetic layer toward the air bearing surface, and providing the laminate structure body with a width which is smaller than a width of the first magnetic layer and the second magnetic layer.

Method of forming thin film magnetic recording head with narrow track width performing high density recording at high driving frequency

A thin film magnetic head is providing for recording with less blur having a high recording magnetic field, for use in a recording/reproduction separation type magnetic head and a magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus. The thin film magnetic head, in which a gap film of a recording head and a magnetic film in contact with the gap film have the same track width, includes an upper magnetic film of the recording head and an upper shield film of a magnetic resistive film, each having a width wider than the track width, and a cross section parallel to the air bearing surface of the upper magnetic film is reduced at a position less than a gap depth from the air bearing surface. The thin film magnetic head has a coil conductor sandwiched by a first magnetic film and a fourth magnetic film, a second magnetic body magnetically connected to the first magnetic film, a third magnetic body magnetically connected to the fourth magnetic film, and a magnetic gap sandwiched by the second and third magnetic films, in which an insulating and non-magnetic single film in contact with the second and third magnetic films covers at least the first magnetic film.

Thin film magnetic recording head with very narrow track width

In order to prevent degradation of the recording performance during radio frequency recording, and to provide a thin film magnetic head and a recording reproducing sectional pattern magnetic head which has a magnetic pole width less than 2 .mu.m and an ultra high density magnetic storage apparatus of 10 Gb/ in.sup.2 grade, a recording head is provided in which a lower part magnetic film serves as a shielding film of a reproducing selection, a non magnetic gap film is formed during formation of the upper part magnetic film and the lower part magnetic film, one part of the lower part magnetic film or the upper part magnetic film has a higher resistivity of more than 80 .mu..OMEGA.cm than other parts, the upper part magnetic film is formed by flame galvanizing, and a gap section of the lower part magnetic film or the upper part magnetic film has a convex shape.
