A method and apparatus for landing and orienting a production selective landing tool (PSLT) within a well casing. The well casing is provided with one or more indexing casing coupling (ICC). The PSLT is included in a completion string. The PSLT has several landing keys and an orientation key. The PSLT is conveyed through the casing and lands in the ICC. The PSLT has integrated control lines for intelligent completion. The PSLT has lugs coupled to a mandrel and control lines. The lugs, the mandrel and the control lines are shifted relative to the body of the PSLT. The control lines are in a slot of the body. The PSLT is locked in the ICC when the mandrel is shifted. The PSLT can be removed from the ICC via pulling the completion string uphole.

Production selective landing tool

A dual tubing locating adapter ('DLTA') for use with a mule shoe. The DLTA may include a housing, a primary tubing string, a lateral tubing string, and a retention mechanism. The primary tubing string may be positioned at least partially within the DLTA. The lateral tubing string may be positioned at least partially within the DLTA and retained within the DLTA via a shear mechanism. The retention mechanism may be operable to retain the lateral tubing string within the DLTA as the DLTA is landed on the mule shoe.

Dual tubing locating adaptor for a tubing string

A technique facilitates reducing or eliminating the risk of premature actuation of a liner hanger system and/or premature release of a miming tool. According to an embodiment, the technique utilizes a running string for deploying a liner hanger assembly having a liner hanger which may be actuated at a desired location to suspend a liner/casing from a surrounding casing string. An anti-preset module may be used in cooperation with the liner hanger to prevent premature actuation of the liner hanger. By way of example, the anti-preset module may use pressure equalization between a region within the miming string and a region between the miming string and the liner hanger to prevent pressure imbalances which could actuate the liner hanger. Additionally, a locking mechanism, e.g. releasable lock dogs, may be used to temporarily lock the liner hanger against premature actuation.

Liner hanger system and method with non-pressure sensitive actuation

A back-up ring system incudes an outer C-ring, an inner C-ring that mates with the outer C-ring, the inner C-ring including a first rupture port, and a ring sheath that fits onto the inner C-ring, the ring sheath including a cut-out region, and a second rupture point. The inner C-ring further includes a blocking segment that angularly offsets the first and second rupture points. The cut-out region of the ring sheath mates with the blocking segment of the inner C-ring. The ring sheath further incudes a '7' shaped cross-sectional profile.

Back-up ring system for elastomeric sealing elements

A technique facilitates simplified cementing operations in a borehole with fewer trips downhole. The technique utilizes a cementing system having a stage cementing collar in combination with a cup tool. According to an embodiment, the stage cementing collar may comprise a collar body, a no-go connected to the collar body, and a port closure sleeve which serves as a valve positioned to close/open flow ports extending laterally through the collar body. The cup tool may be conveyed downhole on, for example, jointed pipe or coiled tubing, for engagement with the port closure sleeve. The cup tool is used to shift the port closure sleeve between operational positions, e.g. from a port open to a port closed position.

A system and method for preventing blowouts during the deployment of a casing string into a wellbore. The system includes securing a casing coupling to a casing string and securing a retrievable check valve within the casing coupling. The retrievable check valve allows fluid from the surface to be pumped through the retrievable check valve. However, the retrievable check valve prevents upward fluid flow from the wellbore through the retrievable check valve to the surface.

Method and apparatus for controlling well pressure in open-ended casing

In a broad aspect, the invention may include a nipple, a deflector, and a conveying tool. The nipple may include an upper sealing surface and a lower sealing surface. The nipple may also include a discriminator/muleshoe having an alignment profile and an alignment slot. A protuberance/bump may be disposed in the alignment slot. The deflector may include an upper seal and a lower seal adapted for engagement with the upper and lower sealing surfaces, respectively, on the nipple. When the upper and lower seals are engaged with the upper and lower sealing surfaces, fluid circulation is substantially restricted thereby resulting in a increase in pressure that is detectable at the earth's surface. This pressure increase provides a signal that the deflector is properly positioned in the nipple. The conveying tool may include a flexible arm having a latching finger that is releasably engageable with a latching profile in the deflector. The latching profile may be on an inclined, concave surface of a whipstock. Related methods are also provided.

Positioning and conveying well apparatus and method

A method and apparatus for establishing connectivity of lateral branch liners to main well casings to achieve predictable and stable mechanical connectivity at the lateral junction of branch well bores to the main well bore to counter the problems of formation instability at the junction. After construction of a well having one or more lateral branches, a retrievable lateral branch template is located in the casing of a main well bore in positioned and oriented registry with a casing window that opens to a lined lateral branch. A retrievable lateral branch connector is then installed in assembly with the template to cooperatively define a production flow path having maximized mechanical integrity and optimized production flow in both the lateral bore and the main bore. The lateral branch template and connector provide the capability to selectively re-enter a lateral branch and to also hydraulically isolate the formation surrounding the junction from fluid circulating in both the lateral branch and the main well bore. Both the lateral branch template and the lateral branch connector are prefabricated and installed into the well by means of running and setting tools. Electrical power or hydraulic pressure conductors incorporated in the template and connector assembly may be used to provide for production operation and control of main and branch well bore production after installation. The equipment can be deployed in wells constructed with any inclination and orientation and can accommodate low or high dogleg severity at kick-off.

Method and apparatus for connecting a lateral branch liner to a main well bore

A method and apparatus for landing and orienting selected tools to selected depths within a well casing. The well casing is provided with a plurality of casing nipples located at selected depths with each of the landing and orienting joints defining a differing internal landing profile and having a mule shoe therein defining an upwardly facing point and an orientation slot and having helical guide ramp surfaces extending from the point to the orientation slot. A landing-orientation tool is adapted to be run into the casing and has an outer tubular body mandrel positioning a plurality of landing dogs for landing engagement with a matching landing profile of one of the casing nipples and positioning an orientation key for guided engagement with the helical guide ramp surfaces and for tool orienting engagement within the orientation slot. The landing-orientation tool has an inner tubular actuator mandrel being linearly positionable at a running position where the landing dogs and orientation key are radially yieldable to pass over internal obstructions in the casing string and a locking position where the landing dogs and orientation key are locked with respect to the matching landing profile of a landing and orienting joint. The tool being run will pass through non-matching landing and orienting joints and will land only when its landing dogs have a landing profile matching the profile of a landing and orienting joint.
