A power injector () includes a movable ram () operable to interface with and move a plunger () of a syringe (). The power injector () may be operable to automatically determine a proper home position for a particular type of the syringe () to be used in a fluid injection sequence. The power injector () may also include a ram homing logic () operable to automatically move the ram () to the home position after the injection sequence. Such automatic homing of the ram () may, for example, be initiated by an end of the injection sequence in preparation for another injection sequence, by opening of a faceplate (), by a user input, or by any combination thereof.

Control logic () for a power injector is disclosed, where this power injector control logic () includes a syringe fill protocol (), a pressure calibration protocol (), a pressure monitoring protocol (), and an injection protocol (). The power injector control logic () is configured to execute the pressure calibration protocol () on each execution of the syringe fill protocol (). The pressure calibration protocol () updates the pressure monitoring protocol (), which is executed during execution of the injection protocol ().
