Propylene random copolymer compositions are described herein. The compositions generally include a propylene random copolymer including from about 95.0 wt. % to about 99.0 wt. % propylene and from about 0.2 wt. % to about 0.8 wt. % ethylene, an additive selected from clarifiers, nucleators and combinations thereof and a stabilizer, wherein the propylene random copolymer exhibits a melt flow rate of from about 0.5 g/10 min. to about 4.0 g/10 min., a molecular weight distribution of from 5 to 10 and wherein the propylene random copolymer composition exhibits a flexural modulus of from about 180,000 psi to about 260,000 psi.

Mini-random copolymer resins having improved mechanical toughness and related properties suitable for thin wall thermoforming applications

A composition that may be useful for thermoforming and blow molding applications comprises a metallocene catalyzed propylene-ethylene random copolymer having an ethylene content of from about 0.1 to about 1.5 weight percent based on the copolymer, and exhibits a flexural modulus of at least about 1,100 MPa, a haze of less than about 40 percent, a melt flow of from about 1.0 dg/min to about 3.0 dg/min, and a xylene solubles content from about 0.2 weight percent to about 1.0 weight percent based on the copolymer. A process for preparing the copolymer and articles prepared therefrom are also disclosed. The composition's properties may make it particularly desirable for applications such as bottles, syringes and containers such as those used for food and medical purposes.

Random copolymers and formulations useful for thermoforming and blow molding applications

A polypropylene material is prepared from a blend of polypropylene impact copolymer and high crystallinity polypropylene having less than 2 percent xylene solubles. The material is prepared by blending the polymers while they are in a molten state, and forming a film or sheet from the polymer blend. The material has particular application to forming slit film tapes and similar materials. The resultant materials exhibit increased tenacity, elongation and toughness and less shrinkage as compared to those materials prepared solely from propylene homopolymers. The materials also have a better overall balance of physical properties than other blends for certain applications.

Polypropylene materials and method of preparing polypropylene materials

A random copolymer having improved mechanical toughness and properties suitable for thin wall thermoforming applications is provided. The random copolymer exhibits the following physical properties: a flexural modulus profile having a 2% flexural modulus of about 168,000 psi, a 1% flexural modulus of about 190,000 psi, and a 0.4% flexural modulus of about 199,000 psi; a melt flow rate of at least about 2.0 g/10 min.; and a haze of less than about 40%. The random copolymer preferably comprises a copolymer of ethylene and propylene, wherein the ethylene content is in the range of from about 0.2% to about 0.8% ethylene by weight of the copolymer. The random copolymer also preferably includes a stabilizer and a clarifying agent such as a sorbitol based clarifier or a nucleator. Various articles of manufacture such as thermoformed containers and packaging may be formed from the random copolymer.

A polypropylene material is provided having increased radiation resistance compared to solely isotactic polypropylene. The material is formed by utilizing a syndiotactic polypropylene. The isotactic polypropylene may be an isotactic metallocene or Ziegler-Natta catalyzed polypropylene and may include an amount of syndiotactic polypropylene. The material may be used in forming a variety of materials that may undergo exposure to radiation, such as sterilization procedures using radiation. Radiation resistant polypropylene materials

Disclosed is a material and a process for mkaing that material as well as containers made from the material, which material comprises a clear multilayer sheet of an olefinic polymer or copolymer, and SEBS rubber tie-layer, and a monovinyl aromatic polymer.
