A banking system that utilizes metrics in acquiring and processing event data related to financial transaction activity at a plurality of automated banking machines. Automated banking machine include sensors able to detect event data during a transaction. The event data can include transaction data related to the type of transaction, time analysis data related to duration of the transaction, and operational data related to machine components used in carrying out the transaction. The event data for automated banking machines can be obtained, analyzed, and stored. Statistical averages associated with the banking system machines can be determined in real time. The averages allow a respective machine to be compared to other machines with respect to operational efficiency. An alert can be issued concerning a statistical anomaly regarding the respective machine.

In particular embodiments, the system can calculate and store time data corresponding to each vehicle. The system can produce statistics related to component performance, such as check reader performance in reading check data from generated check images. The system can also be used to detect and then alleviate potential problems, such as by causing a machine to perform an early sending of check images.

The customer at the customer station provides inputs corresponding to a financial account through input devices on the body which is stored in the memory () on the body. After transfer to the service provider station, data in the memory is output to a charge device () which is operative to assess a charge to the customer's account responsive to data output from the memory. At least one computer calculates at least one time value corresponding to each vehicle and stores the at least one time value and other data values concerning the respective transaction.
