A driver assembly for the burnishing pad of a high speed floor burnishing machine includes a rotatably driven hub having spaced-apart recesses in its outer surface. The hub is fixed to a flexible backing plate having inner and outer depending cylindrical retaining flanges defining a channel in which the burnishing pad is received for attachment to the backing plate by a gripper pad. The inner edge of the burnishing pad is clamped against the gripper pad by an inner clamping cup which is received within the inner retaining flange in an interference fit therewith. The driver assembly is supported on a center caster, the wheel of which is disposed in the clamping cup. The burnishing pad and driver assembly are surrounded by a vacuum shroud which is continuously evacuated by radial air flow generated by the motion of the driver assembly.

High speed floor burnisher

A driver assembly for the pad of a high speed floor burnishing machine includes a flexible backing plate having a peripheral retaining skirt which centers the pad on the driver assembly and also prevents the edges of the pad from growing or expanding to a larger circumference during high speed rotary burnishing action. The backing plate adds stiffness to the pad when rotating at high speed, and it promotes uniform contact of the pad with the floor at the outer radial extremities of the pad where the velocity is greatest and the polishing is most effective. In the illustrated embodiment, the pad and driver assembly are surrounded by a shroud which is continuously evacuated by radial air flow generated by the motion of the driver assembly which includes a finned hub. The air flow carries debris generated by the burnisher to a collection bag or filter without leaving the machine.

An apparatus for diffusing air turbulence created during the normal operation of a rotary pad floor polishing machine. This device includes an air permeable member (12) which surrounds the circumference of the pad shroud (11), thereby physically preventing the escape of particulate matter from beneath the floor polishing machine and disrupting turbulent air flow. A mounting ring (13) is included for pressure fitting the permeable element to the pad shroud.

Air guard diffuser

The subject to this patent application is apparatus for mechanically varying the speed of a disk, such as a floor treating pad (18), mounted for rotation about the axis of elongation (20) of a shaft (38) powered by a fixed speed motor. The pad (18) is supported by a hub (40) disposed axially intermediate a flange member (74) fixedly attached to the shaft (38) and a sheave (66) disposed for rotation about the shaft (38), but at a speed different than that of the shaft (38). The invention includes means for keying the hub (40) to either the flange member (74) or the sheave (66), depending upon the desired speed of operation of the floor treating machine (10) of which the pad (18) is a part.

Floor cleaning and polishing machine

An apparatus for polishing a floor includes a rotated polishing pad suspended from a housing with a mechanism for maintaining full engagement of the surface of the pad with the floor. This mechanism includes a caster disposed within a centrally-located aperture in the pad and a device, such as a spring, connecting the caster to the housing which increasingly urges the caster and housing away from one another as they progressively approach one another.

Floor polishing machine

An improved self-propelled carpet cleaning machine comprises a body movably mounted by a drive wheel. The body is powered by a drive motor which may be selectively connectable either to an AC power source located separately from the body or to a DC power source contained in the body. In addition, the body includes a first storage chamber for receiving fresh cleaning solution therein and a second storage chamber for receiving spent cleaning solution therein. The first and second storage chambers are provided by a flexible membrane which divides an enclosed cavity into two parts. A scrubbing means is also carried by the body in back of the drive wheel on the body. The scrubbing means includes means for applying the fresh cleaning solution to the carpet, a brush roller for agitating the carpet fibers contacted by the cleaning solution to remove foreign material therefrom, and a vacuum shoe for removing the spent cleaning solution from the carpet and placing that solution in the second storage chamber.

Automatic carpet cleaning machine
