Techniques are described for alert-triggered recording spectrum data. In one embodiment, a method comprises determining whether network performance for one or more communications channels of a wireless network is below a threshold. In response to determining that the network performance for the one or more communications channels of the wireless network is below the threshold, recording of spectrum data for energy on the one or more communications channels of the wireless network is initiated. In an embodiment, determining whether network performance is below a threshold comprises determining whether the quality of at least one communications channel is below a threshold. In another embodiment, determining whether network performance is below a threshold comprises determining whether one or more network parameters monitored on one or more network elements indicate that network performance is below a threshold.

Alert-triggered recording of spectrum data

A multiple access wireless communications architecture provides selective, simultaneous communications with wireless devices located in different sections of a spatial area around a communications apparatus referred to as 'sectors'. In one embodiment, channel allocation techniques for increasing one or more of throughput and coverage in a wireless communications environment. In one embodiment, a mode of operation is selected from a plurality of modes of operation, enabling a wireless communications transmitter to be dynamically configured to reach a wireless communications devices at a greater distance from the transmitter without increased interference between communications channels ('range mode') or to provide wireless communications to a greater number of wireless communications devices within a relatively closer distance to the wireless transmitter (&#x201c;capacity mode&#x201d;) or to provide wireless communications using a single channel to provide wireless communications at a relatively greatest distance from the transmitter (&#x201c;super range mode&#x201d;).

Method and apparatus for coverage and throughput enhancement in a wireless communication system

A multiple access wireless communications architecture provides selective, simultaneous communications with wireless devices located in different sections of a spatial area around a communications apparatus referred to as 'sectors'. This includes communications between wireless devices in a single sector, between wireless devices in different sectors and between wireless devices and a wired network or wireless backhaul network. The wireless communications architecture generally includes two or more wireless antenna arrangements that are each configured to provide communications with wireless devices located in a particular sector. Each wireless antenna arrangement is further configured to determine whether signals are being communicated on a communications channel before transmitting on the communications channel. This may be implemented, for example, using a carrier sense or energy detection mechanism. Wireless devices within a sector may communicate on the same or different communications channels, depending upon the particular multiple access protocol employed. For example, TDMA or CSMA may be used to allow wireless devices in a sector to share communications channels. Communications channels may also be used simultaneously in different sectors by different wireless devices.
