An apparatus an unmanned aerial vehicle recovery system is provided. The apparatus includes a base to mount to an unmanned aerial vehicle. The apparatus further includes a housing to engage the base. In addition, the apparatus includes a parachute disposed within the housing. Also, the apparatus includes a deployment mechanism to deploy the parachute. The deployment mechanism is to eject the housing away from the base upon a triggering event.

Unmanned aerial vehicle recovery systems and methods

A cone staging apparatus for production of smoking articles includes (a) a frame, and (b) a cone pallet releasably supported by the frame. The cone pallet includes a plurality of cavities. Each cavity has an open upper end for receiving a cone therein. The apparatus further includes (c) a cone magazine adjacent the frame for holding a supply of cones. The cone magazine includes at least one escapement alignable over the open upper end of a respective cavity of the cone pallet to facilitate transferring a single cone from the supply of cones to the respective cavity.

Cone staging apparatus and related methods

A method of compacting a smokeable product in a cone for production of smoking articles is disclosed. The method includes aligning a respective cone held in a cone pallet with a pin. The cone contains a volume of the smokeable product and has an open upper end. The method further includes advancing the pin into the volume of the smokeable product through the open upper end of the cone; and withdrawing the pin from the volume of the smokeable product. The volume of the smokeable product has an empty column formed therein when the pin is withdrawn. The method further includes vibrating the cone pallet to induce collapse of the smokeable product into the column.

Compaction apparatus and related methods

A compaction apparatus for compacting a smokeable product in production of smoking articles includes: (a) a frame for removably receiving a cone pallet. The cone pallet includes a plurality of cavities. Each cavity holds a cone filled with a volume of the smokeable product. The apparatus further includes (b) a compaction mechanism including: (i) at least one pin alignable above an open upper end of a respective cone and movable from a retracted position, in which the pin is spaced apart from the smokeable product in the cone, toward an advanced position for inserting a lower portion of the pin into the volume of the smokeable product. The compaction mechanism further includes (ii) a vibratory drive coupled to the pin and operable to vibrate the pin when the lower portion of the pin is within the volume of the smokeable product for inducing settlement of the smokeable product.

A cone closure apparatus for production of smoking articles includes: (a) a frame; and (b) at least one cone holder supported by the frame and extending along an axis. The cone holder has a lower grip surface for applying a rotational force about the axis to an outer surface of a lower filled portion of a cone received in the cone holder. The cone having an upper empty portion disposed above the lower filled portion and protruding clear of the lower grip surface to receive a counter-rotational force about the axis, in a direction opposite the rotational force. The closure apparatus further includes (c) a drive supported by the frame for applying at least one of the rotational force and the counter-rotational force to twist the upper empty portion closed when the drive is energized.

Many tools and other items include a shaft. A restraining device is disclosed for restraining such an item when the item is not in use. In one embodiment, the restraining device includes at least one of: (i) a thumb-receiving surface for receiving a force by a thumb to pivot an arm open; and (ii) a finger-receiving surface for receiving a force by at least one finger to pivot the arm open. The restraining device may be used in restraining a reaching device in a rural mail carrier's vehicle. An apparatus is therefore also disclosed that, in one embodiment, includes a supporting body securable to a vehicle seat. The supporting body supports a tray for holding mail. The restraining device is connected to the supporting body.

Restraining device

The present invention generally relates to a sample receiving device for releasably storing a substance. The sample receiving device includes a lid having a reservoir for retaining the substance, and a pierceable barrier sealing the substance within the reservoir; and b) a funnel for receiving a sample and configured for closure by the lid. The funnel is configured for releasable attachment to a sample receptacle such that a sample can be provided to the funnel and travel through the channel in the funnel into the sample receptacle. Further, the funnel includes one or more cutting ribs for cutting the pierceable barrier such that upon cutting of the pierceable barrier the substance is released from the reservoir, flows through the channel in the funnel and into the sample receptacle to be mixed with the sample. The present invention also provides a kit for collecting and storing biomolecules.

Sample receiving device

A sample collection tool comprises a collection end configured for collecting a sample. Optionally, the sample is collected from within a body cavity of an animal without causing significant discomfort or injury to the animal. A first handle portion has a first end connected to the collection end and a second end. A second handle portion is connected to the second end of the first handle portion by a breakable connection. The second end of the first handle portion has at least one winglet. The at least one winglet is compliant in a preferential direction. The breakable connection is ruptured at least in part when the at least one winglet is forced in the preferential direction.

A bag retention system and field configurable waste and recycling receptacle and receptacle systems that employ same. The bag retention system includes a peripheral side wall element having an upper portion defining an opening for receiving at least one bag, the peripheral side wall element having a bag opening and support member (e.g. an outwardly extending flange) about which an upper portion of a bag can be wrapped, and a tensioning element located below the flange and coupled to and extending outwardly from the side wall element, the tensioning element having means for releasably securing excess material from an upper portion of a bag, whereby a bag can be inserted in the opening with an upper portion thereof folded over and tightened around flange by pulling the upper portion of the bag taut around the flange and releasably securing the excess material to the tensioning element.

Bag retention system and field configurable waste and recycling receptacles and systems employing same

A reaching device that in one embodiment comprises an elongated member, a jaw, and an actuator for opening and closing the jaw. The jaw includes a pair of holding members, one of which has a tapered lateral side edge. In one embodiment, the reaching device may allow a rural mail carrier to remain seated in the driver's side of a conventional (North American) vehicle, reach through the passenger's window, and perform the following tasks: open a mail box, retrieve mail from the mail box, place mail into the mail box, close the mail box, and raise or lower the indicator flag on the side of the mail box.

A portable workbench includes a top structure, a support structure and a collapsible frame. The top structure includes upper work supporting surfaces lying in a common plane and longitudinally extending opposed side portions defining clamping surfaces. A linkage mechanism cooperates with the frame to actuate the workbench between an expanded working position and a collapsed transport position. A lever releasably cooperates with the frame to maintain the workbench in a locked expanded position.
