An aircraft display and control system generally includes a processor, a cursor control and selection device, a multifunction keyboard, an aeronautical information database, a geographic database, and a plurality of display devices. Users, such as an aircraft pilot and copilot, can perform flight plan entry and modification by manipulating graphical and textual information on the display devices using the cursor control device and the multifunction keyboard. In one embodiment, the present invention provides an interface to flight deck information systems that is intuitive and easy to use, and which enables flight crew members to easily and effectively enter and modify data displayed by the aircraft flight deck, substantially centralizes avionics controls within one controller, and decreases flight crew 'heads-down' time.

A display system according to various aspects of the present invention provides systems and methods for an integrated graphical user interface which facilitates the interactive and dynamic display aircraft data. In accordance with various aspects of the present invention, a user (e.g., a pilot) provides input to a processor and receives visual feedback via a display produced by one or more monitors. The display includes various graphical elements according to the operator's commands and a predetermined set of rules. By adjusting the information on the display, the user may view the desired information according to the operator's current needs and interests.

Methods and apparatus for displaying information

The completion of an electronic checklist is facilitated by the automated display of certain data while completing the checklist. The disclosed program presents an automated display of synoptic, navigational, or flight management data for each task in a checklist. For each task in a checklist, there may be certain data which would aid the pilot or other user to complete the checklist. Such data can be displayed contemporaneously with the checklist. After the completion of each task in the checklist, the contents of the display can be restored to the state the display was in before the checklist was started.

Method and apparatus for automatic display and removal of required synoptic pages in a checklist context

The pilot's awareness of the aircraft's state is enhanced by supplementing the flight modes area (FMA) in the upper region of the primary flight display (PFD) with additional annunciators. The FMA in the present invention displays, in the active lateral modes region, the name of the waypoint the aircraft is flying towards and, if the waypoint is part of a published procedure, the procedure name is displayed in this area. Moreover, if the controls of the aircraft are set for a specific target, then the target, along with the mode annunciators, are displayed in the active vertical modes region of the FMA. Furthermore, if the aircraft starts to deviate from the preselected altitude, the pilot is alerted of the uncoordinated condition by a CHECK ASEL annunciation which is displayed in the lower center region of the FMA, namely below the autopilot (AP) annunciator. Additionally, if the approach has been programmed, but the pilot has not yet armed an approach, the crew is alerted to the condition by an annunciation which is displayed in the lower center region of the FMA in sufficient time to allow for normal capture of the approach such that the pilot can select the approach (APR) pushbutton to arm the system for the approach.

System and method for flight mode annunciators

A system and method for graphically controlling a communication device and displaying its characteristics on a display within a vehicle including a microprocessor, a communication and navigation information window within a portion of the display, the window being generated by and in communication with the microprocessor, at least one radio in communication with and controlled by the microprocessor, a data input means in communication with the microprocessor and at least one communication and navigation information database in communication with the microprocessor. An aircraft operator provides input to a cursor control device and receives visual feedback via a display produced by a monitor. The display includes various graphical elements associated with each radio's characteristics. Through the use of the cursor control device, the operator may modify the radio's characteristics and/or other such indicia graphically in accordance with feedback provided by the display.
