An XML Document Management Server for use within an IP Multimedia Subsystem, IMS, network and being configured to enable IMS subscribers and a network operator to manage supplementary service data stored in a subscription data repository. The Server comprises a first interface or interfaces for receiving supplementary service data requests, and a request parser configured, for each request, to parse the request to determine if it contains both an X-3GPP-Asserted-Private-Identity header and an X-3GPP-Asserted-Identity header. The server further comprises an Sh interface for generating an Sh message corresponding to each request and, in the event that both an X-3GPP-Asserted-Private-Identity header and an X-3GPP-Asserted-Identity header are present in the request, for including these in the Sh message, and for sending the Sh message to said subscription data repository.

User data management

According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a method of operating an Application Server (AS) that implements an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) supplementary service for a user. The method includes configuring a rule for the user, the rule having an action specifying whether or not an announcement is to be provided and, if an announcement is to be provided, defining media to be used for the announcement. The method further includes determining if a condition of the rule is met by a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) message relating to the user and, if so, implementing an announcement in accordance with the action.

Methods and apparatus for configuring and implementing announcements for IP multimedia subsystem supplementary services

Methods and apparatus for controlling the presentation of user changeable IP Multimedia Subsystem, IMS, service rules at a user equipment. The service rules, conditions, and/or actions are defined within an XML document maintained within the IMS network. The XML document includes one or more informational elements identifying the service rules that the user can change, which include at least one of an unconditional or immediate based service rule. Upon receipt of the XML document, the user equipment or a web portal, interprets the informational element(s) and presents an indication in relation to whether the service rules are changeable. In response, user defined service rule information may be received and used in changing service rules associated with the user. The user defined service rule information is transmitted to the IMS network for validation and allowable portions of the user defined service rule information are used in updating the service rules.

Unconditional and immediate service capabilities for rule based services

Methods and apparatus are provided for performing a trace session between a first user equipment (UE), and a second UE in a telecommunications network including an IMS network. A trace session initiator activates the trace session with an activation request message, or a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) INVITE message, including trace settings comprising informational elements describing the trace session. The activation message may be converted into the SIP I NVITE message and sent towards the first and/or the second UE. The SIP INVITE message may include trace settings as extensible mark-up language (XML) informational elements within the body of the SIP INVITE request message and/or as request Uniform Resource Identifier informational elements within the SIP INVITE request message. Network elements in the communications path between the UEs are configured to detect the trace session by detecting the trace settings in the SIP INVITE request message and act accordingly.

Session based nettrace and test call

A method and apparatus for managing a HOLD announcement in a communication network. At an Application Server, AS, a message is received from a user terminal, the message comprises of an indicator, specifying whether the AS should provide a HOLD announcement in the event of a change in direction of a media stream between the user terminal and a further node during a session. The AS stores the indicator in a memory. Upon determination that a change in direction of the media stream has occurred, the AS determines, from the indicator, whether or not to provide the HOLD announcement to the further node.

Hold announcement configuration

A method is provided for establishing a new communication leg of a communication session in an IP Multimedia Subsystem, IMS, network architecture that includes CAMEL services. The method enables IMS network nodes to selectively invoke or suppress invocation of CAMEL services based on signaling received in SIP requests.

Suppressing CAMEL service invocation for diverting users

A user terminal may include an IP Multimedia Subsystem, IMS, client to enable the terminal to communicate with an IMS network. The IMS client may include a conference creation and control unit configured to create and control an IMS conference involving one or more participants, participants being identified within a conference INVITE or REFER message by respective Uniform Resource Identifiers, URIs, within a URI list. The conference creation and control unit may include a response handling unit configured to receive from the IMS network, in response to the sending of an INVITE or REFER, a SIP response message including an XML body specifying an Outgoing Communication Barring, OCB, service invocation result and configured to present the specified result to a terminal user. Related methods and application servers are also discussed.

Outgoing communication barring service in the IP multimedia subsystem

In one aspect, a user terminal is configured to access an IMS network, and to obtain from the network an indication of a current dial-tone condition of the terminal. The terminal displays a graphical user-interface, GUI, that includes a visual indication of the current dial-tone condition of the terminal. In another aspect Application Server function in an IMS network is configured to provide information to a user terminal regarding a current dial-tone condition such that the user terminal is able to display an indication of the current dial-tone also known as call progress tone. Examples given in the application are dial-tone aka ring-back tone, message waiting tone and tones indicating that the user has activated call forwarding unconditional or call diversion. In another aspect a method of enabling a user of a user terminal accessing an IMS network to be informed of a current dial-tone condition of the user terminal includes: providing the user terminal with information regarding the current dial-tone condition; and, based on the obtained information, displaying the current dial-tone condition on a graphical user-interface on the user terminal.

According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a method of operating an XML Document Management Server in an IP Multimedia Subsystem. The method comprises receiving a message from a user terminal requesting an XML document, the XML document conforming to a given structure and containing one or more service rules relating to a service, retrieving an XML document containing said service rules from a data storage entity. If the structure of the retrieved XML document differs from said given structure, adapting a rule or rules of the retrieved XML document such that the XML document conforms to said given structure, and sending the adapted XML document to the user terminal.
