An apparatus for ultrafiltration of a patient being overhydrated due to congestive heart failure, comprising a tube set including a connector () for connection to a patient line () for access to the peritoneal cavity of the patient. A flow pump (-) is arranged for addition and removal outflow and inflow (recirculation) of fluid from/to the peritoneal cavity. An osmotic agent peristaltic pump () is arranged for replenishment of glucose solution to the fluid added to the peritoneal cavity for promoting ultrafiltration. The glucose is replenished intermittently for keeping a concentration of glucose substantially constant in the peritoneal cavity. The flow pump comprises a pressure chamber () with rigid walls and a flexible pump bag () arranged therein. An air pump () pressurizes the chamber for outflow of fluid from the peritoneal cavity by a sub pressure and inflow of fluid to the peritoneal cavity by an overpressure, which pressures are maintained within safe limits.

Apparatus for performing peritoneal ultrafiltration

An apparatus for ultrafiltration of a patient being overhydrated due to congestive heart failure, comprising a tube set including a connector for connection to a patient line for access to the peritoneal cavity of the patient. A flow pump is arranged for addition and removal outflow and inflow (recirculation) of fluid from/to the peritoneal cavity. A capping device is configured to terminate a connector while disconnected from another connector in a fluid transportation system, e.g., for peritoneal dialysis. The connector comprises an exposed surface portion that is enclosed when the connector is connected to the other connector. The capping device comprises a body defining a chamber with an opening, a liquid-containing disinfectant in the chamber, a sealing element arranged in the opening to form a sealed cavity retaining the disinfectant, and a structure for engaging and guiding the connector towards the body such that a portion of the connector displaces the sealing element into the chamber. The sealed cavity is configured such that a displacement of the sealing element into the chamber actively presses the disinfectant out of the sealed cavity, for disinfecting at least part of the exposed surface portion. The capping device may be manufactured by introducing the liquid-containing disinfectant into the chamber through the opening, and by arranging the sealing element in the opening to form the sealed cavity.

Maintaining sterile conditions in a fluid transportation system

PD-cycler and tube set therefor and a method for use thereof. The tube set includes a transfer member for automatic transfer of possibly remaining contents in supply bags or heater bags of the tube set to a waste receiver. A separate connection unit is arranged in connection with a valve pack of the PD-cycler. The connection unit has a rod of ferromagnetic material which allows an indication that the tube set is in the correct position. The beater and drain bags are combined into a double bag which is supported by a yoke in a folded state, which is unfolded upon application into the PD-cycler.
