Method, apparatus, and computer program product embodiments are disclosed to enable simplified configuring of a wireless docking group for wireless devices by allowing a wireless device to communicate its capabilities and characteristics of one or more wireless devices within a wireless docking group, using a new Wireless Docking Protocol, to a wireless docking station that will use that information and the Wireless Docking Protocol to define an optimal set of connections for wireless devices in the wireless docking group.

Method, apparatus and computer program product for creating a wireless docking group

This invention describes a method for expanding universal plug and play capabilities in a power constrained environment thus facilitating communication between two terminals with universal plug and play (UPnP) application capabilities, wherein one of the terminals is in a sleeping mode. The present invention can be applied (but not be limited) to mobile terminals, wireless devices, portable devices, mobile communication devices, mobile phones, etc. The invention describes a mechanism in which the UPnP application dynamically instructs the TCP/IP stack to tune-up its parameters so that it can tolerate longer delays and timeouts, due to the fact that it operates in a power constrained UPnP environment.

A mobile terminal includes a processor capable of operating a link manager. The link manager is capable of at least partially operating a wireless connection between the terminal and an access point in an active mode, where the access point is coupled to a network. The link manager is also capable of transitioning the connection from the active mode to a standby mode or hibernate mode. In this regard, transitioning the connection includes entering the mobile terminal in a power-saving mode of a bearer of the connection, such as a Bluetooth power-saving mode, and directing the access point to reduce traffic flowing from the network across the connection to the mobile terminal when the mobile terminal is otherwise capable of receiving the traffic.

A portable gateway apparatus communicates with devices coupled to a first network and devices coupled to at least a second network. The gateway provides an interface to a mobile phone to discover services/devices within both the first and the at least second networks and interacts with them. The mobile phone includes a service/content directory enabling a user to select preferred services. The gateway conducts service discovery to identify services and devices responsive to the user request. The services and description are provided to the user for selection, after which a service-specific interface is displayed to enable the mobile phone to control the execution of the discovered services.
