A hydraulic percussion device and method of controlling a working cycle of a percussion piston is provided. A rock breaking machine includes a percussion device provided with a reciprocating piston executing a working cycle. The operation is controlled by means of a control unit generating control signals for independently operable feed and discharge valves of a hydraulic system. The position of the piston is detected by a sensing device.

Percussion device and method for controlling the same

A hydraulic breaking hammer and method of supporting a percussion piston is provided. The breaking hammer includes a percussion device provided with a reciprocating piston. The piston is supported on a frame at its end portions by a first piston bearing element and a second piston bearing element. The second piston bearing element includes a collar sealing element facing towards a working collar of the piston. The piston bearing elements are easily mountable and dismountable separate components.

The measuring device comprises a sensor for measuring a physical phenomenon caused by the operation of the percussion device. The measuring results are processed, and they are used to determine the start and end times of the operation of the percussion device. By means of a timing device, it is possible to determine the duration of an impact cycle which is added to a time counter. The durations of impact cycles added cumulatively to the time counter indicate the total percussion time of the breaking hammer. Impact pauses between impact cycles are also monitored, and pauses shorter than a predefined time limit are taken into account as part of the usage rate.

The invention relates to an arrangement for indicating a need for maintaining a hydraulic breaking apparatus, the arrangement comprising means for measuring at least one parameter describing the loading of the apparatus. The invention also comprises an indicator which is specific for each breaking apparatus and which is arranged to indicate visually, for example by means of LED lamps, that the parameter measured has exceeded the limit value determined in advance for maintenance.
