An apparatus for measuring a physiological parameter of a user is disclosed. The apparatus comprises at least one processor and at least one memory comprising a computer program code comprising program instructions of a first algorithm modelling acquisition of the physiological parameter from motion of a user's arm and program instructions of a second algorithm modelling acquisition of the physiological parameter from motion of the user's torso. The at least one memory and the computer program code are configured, with the at least one processor, to cause the apparatus to: acquire torso acceleration data representing motion of the torso of the user; process the torso acceleration data with the second algorithm; and acquire, from the acceleration data processed with the second algorithm, reference parameters for the first algorithm.

Acceleration measurement in exercise apparatus

A procedure for calibrating walking and/or running measurements in an exercise-related apparatus are provided. As a result of a user running and walking a given distance which may be the same or different for running and walking, respective running and walking motion metrics are obtained during a calibration phase. A relation between the obtained running and walking motion metrics are then used to compute a calibration value applied to calibrate one of running and walking measurements during an exercise.

Method for calibrating exercise apparatus

An apparatus, a method, and a computer program are disclosed. The apparatus comprises a processor. The processor is configured to obtain instantaneous acceleration values representing lower limb motion of a user, to form an effective acceleration value from the instantaneous acceleration values over a plurality of steps of the user, and to determine a motion parameter representing overall motion of the user by means of the effective acceleration value.

Overall motion determination

In the solution of the invention, an association is formed between activity information characterizing the activity level of a user and a performance parameter value proportional to the heart rate information of the user, the activity information and heart rate information having been measured in a user-specific performance monitor, and the heart rate information being responsive to the activity level.

A corresponding method for determining pedaling effort of a bicycle, and a computer program distribution medium including instructions for executing a computer process in a digital processor are also disclosed.

A portable apparatus including an interface configured to input first motion data of a user from a foot-worn first self-contained activity determining unit is disclosed. The portable apparatus also includes a second self-contained activity determining unit configured to determine second motion data of the user. Furthermore, the portable apparatus includes a processing unit configured to determine and store a user-specific dependency between the first motion data and the second motion data, and determine a current speed of the user or a current traveled distance of the user based on current second motion data and the user-specific dependency.
