A method of removing cations from water and a process arrangement for performing the method, wherein the method includes containing cations selected from a group consisting of Se, As, Sb, Cr, Mn, Mo, W, V, Te, P, Si including preparing an iron precipitate-containing sludge by electrochemical water treatment, wherein the water is led through an electrochemical water treatment unit, wherein electricity dissolves iron from an anode to the water thereby forming an iron precipitate-containing sludge to which cations to be removed are adsorbed/co-precipitated, adsorption and co-precipitation enhancing to provide a very high density sludge having an iron precipitate concentration of 50-400 g/l thereby further adsorbing cations contained in the water, and separating solids from the obtained sludge thereby producing treated water having a reduced cation content and solids comprising iron precipitate compounds and adsorbed/co-precipitated cation compounds.

Method and process arrangement of removing cations from water

An electrode module including electrode plates spaced from one another by spacing means, a plurality of support members each extending through each electrode plate and at least one spacing means between two adjacent electrode plates for releasable securing of the electrode plates together, and each electrode plate includes a plate portion. Each electrode plate includes one supporting and connection lug portion configured to support each electrode plate at a first busbar or a second busbar in an electrochemical reactor for electrically connecting each electrode plate of the electrode module with a first busbar or a second busbar for supplying electrical current between one of the first busbar and the second busbar and each electrode plate of the electrode module.

Electrode module, electrochemical reactor, and water treatment apparatus

A water treatment apparatus includes an electrochemical reactor including a shell structure and a support structure for supporting the shell structure on a base. The support structure includes at least one support element supporting the shell structure from the ledge. A head room portion includes, within the inner space of the shell structure, at least one shelf for receiving and supporting at least one lug portion of at least one electrode plate for suspending the electrode plate. The shelf being located, when in use, preferably directly above the ledge.

An electrochemical reactor for electrochemically treating water, including a shell structure defining an inner space. The shell structure further includes an inlet portion having an inlet for conducting a water flow to the inner space, and a reactor chamber in flow connection with the inlet portion, and preferably with an outlet portion. The inlet is arranged such that the water flow to the inner space is directed away from the reactor chamber so as to cause the water flow to mix by forcing the water flow to change direction before entering the reactor chamber. A water treatment apparatus having such a reactor, and the use of such a reactor are also disclosed.
