The present invention relates to a method for applying diversity reception when signals of a mobile station (MS) are received via at least two separate base stations (BTS , BTS ). A first base station controller (BSC ) is arranged to forward the signals received from a base station (BTS ) to a second base station controller (BSC ), which is arranged to apply diversity combining to forward the received signals further to a mobile switching center (MSC , MSC ). In connection with handover, the second base station controller (BSC ) is arranged to forward the signals received from a base station (BTS ) to the first base station controller (BSC ); a connection is set up from the first base station controller (BSC ) to the mobile switching center (MSC , MSC ); and the first base station controller (BSC ) is arranged to apply diversity combining to forward the received signals further to the mobile switching center (MSC , MSC ).
