An image considering the visual field of a visual disorder person is reproduced with high fidelity, and an image matching the visual field of a visual disorder person is corrected to display a clear image, respectively by using visual information conversion correction coefficients. Barriers of visual disorder persons can be reduced. An input image for vision reproduction is corrected by converting values of the XYZ chromaticity coordinates in accordance with the vision characteristics data of the XYZ chromaticity coordinates for a simulated person. A reproduced image with the visual situation of the simulated person is output in accordance with the corrected input image.

An image reading method for forming an image on a transmission original irradiated with visible light and infrared light by an image forming optical system and reading the image by reading means, comprising an image forming magnification correction step of correcting a difference between the image forming magnification of a visible-light image and the image forming magnification of an infrared-light image by the image forming optical system, so that the image reading apparatus can be miniaturized and simplified and defects such as foreign matters and flaws on the original can adequately be corrected.

Image reading apparatus

An image reading apparatus comprises a light source for illuminating an original, an imaging optical system for forming an image of the illuminated original on the focal plane of the system, and a sensor unit arranged in front of the focal plane. At least two infrared cut filters are arranged on the optical path between the light source and the sensor unit. Those infrared cut filters show respective spectral characteristics that are different from each other. The imaging optical system typically comprises a plurality of lenses and the infrared cut filters are arranged on at least two of the respective surfaces of the lenses.

A light guide member includes a columnar light transmission member having an end face as a light incident surface, a light emergent surface on part of a side surface of the columnar light transmission member, and a saw-toothed reflection portion on a surface opposing the light emergent surface. The saw-toothed reflection portion is made up of a plurality of reflection surfaces. An angle of a reflection surface farther away from the light incident surface with respect to a longitudinal direction of the light guide member is larger than an angle of a reflection surface closer to the light incident surface with respect to the longitudinal direction.

In an image reading apparatus provided with a light source for illuminating an original, the light source includes a fluorescent lamp having a tube surface by means of which a part of a beam of light therefrom is condensed on the surface of the original by the optical action thereof, a line sensor for reading image information of the original and an optical device for causing image information of the original illuminated with the beam of light from the light source to be imaged on the line sensor.
