Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may identify a beam management window based at least in part on one or more downlink traffic parameters satisfying a window opening condition. The UE may perform a beam sweep on a set of beams associated with one or more physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) demodulation reference signal (DMRS) transmissions that are received during the beam management window. The UE may select, among the set of beams associated with the one or more PDSCH DMRS transmissions received during the beam management window, a beam to use to communicate with a network node based at least in part on one or more metrics associated with each respective beam included in the set of beams. Smart window determination for beam sweep on physical downlink shared channel demodulation reference signal

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described in which a user equipment (UE) may perform beam measurements for one or more subsets of beams that are selected to provide enhanced beam switch determinations. The UE may identify one or more prioritized beams, and may measure the prioritized beams at a same periodicity as measurements of a serving beam. The UE may, additionally or alternatively, identify a set of all layer one beams (e.g., maximum-level beams or top level beams) for measurement according to a periodic interval, based on a measured mobility being less than a threshold value. The periodic interval may provide that each layer one beam may be measured at a cadence of one beam per measurement occasion, in order to provide measurement diversity.

Techniques for beam selection based on measurement periodicities

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide a method for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE), generally including receiving assistance information, from a network entity, indicating a mapping between beams across different remote radio heads (RRHs) and using the assistance information to perform beam management when the UE is moving from the coverage area of one RRH to the coverage area of another RRH.

Energy-efficient beam selection

In some aspects, the present disclosure provides methods, apparatuses, and systems for efficient thermal mitigation while maintaining wireless device performance on a primary component carrier (PCC). Embodiments described may include implementation of target transceiver module configurations, where bandwidth (e.g., PCC bands and secondary component carrier (SCC) bands) may be monitored by a wireless device based on intra-module target configurations and/or inter-module target configurations. An intra-module target configuration may include a target transceiver module monitoring both PCC bands and SCC bands. An inter-module target configuration may include or refer to a plurality of target transceiver modules together monitoring PCC bands and SCC bands. In scenarios where operating temperatures exceed temperature thresholds, target transceiver module configurations may be implemented to transition PCC bands, SCC bands, or both, from a PCC-resident transceiver module to another transceiver module to reduce the operating temperatures of concern. Various additional and alternative aspects are described herein.

Thermal mitigation in user equipment having multiple communication modules

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may perform a set of synchronization signal block (SSB) measurements and select a serving UE beam and a set of candidate UE beams for measuring a channel state information (CSI) reference signal (CSI-RS) based on the set of SSB measurements. The UE may identify, or predict, time resources for the CSI-RS based on previous CSI-RS configurations. The UE may measure the CSI-RS based on the time resources using a candidate UE beam from the set of candidate UE beams. The UE may transmit, to an access network entity, a measurement report based on measuring the CSI-RS using the candidate UE beam or a last CSI-RS measurement on the serving UE beam.

Techniques for beam selection using channel state information reference signal acquisition resources

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for a user equipment (UE) to detect motion of the UE based on a motion sensor, such as an inertial measurement unit (IMU). The UE, based on the detected motion, may trigger a measurement procedure in which measurements of different beams or cells are performed at a greater periodicity than if the motion were not detected. The indication from the motion sensor may indicate that UE acceleration, rotation, orientation, or any combinations thereof, exceeds a threshold and results in the UE switching to a fastest available measurement periodicity. After triggering the fastest available measurement periodicity, the UE may adjust the measurement periodicity based on newly obtained beam measurements and converge to a measurement periodicity based on observed metrics.

Motion-based beam management techniques in wireless communications

Embodiments include methods of testing wireless devices for beam forming performance. Various aspects may include determining measurements of communication performance of the wireless device at each of a number of different angular orientations of the wireless device with respect to an antenna within a test chamber, and determining whether the wireless device satisfies beam forming performance requirements by comparing the measurements of communication performance to pass/fail criteria. Further embodiments may include a wireless device testing apparatus configured to perform testing wireless devices for beam forming performance. In some embodiments, a wireless device testing apparatus may include a test chamber, an antenna within the test chamber, a rotatable positioning system within the test chamber configured to hold a wireless device and rotate the wireless device within a range of orientations with respect to the antenna, and a computing device coupled to the antenna and the rotatable positioning system.

Method for dynamic orientation-change based over-the-air testing of beamforming performance

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive a first reference signal (RS). The UE may identify a set of UE beams based at least in part on signal strengths of the first RS as measured via at least one UE beam of the set of UE beams. The UE may transmit, based at least in part on the first RS, a report including an indication of a network node beam for communication with the UE, the indication based at least in part on a signal strength of the first RS using a first UE beam of the set of UE beams. The UE may receive a second RS using the set of UE beams. The UE may identify, based at least in part on the second RS, a second UE beam of the set of UE beams, identification based at least in part on a spectral efficiency associated with the second UE beam. Techniques for beam management

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for signaling and scheduling to enable network configured small gaps in intra-band inter-frequency measurement. A method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving, from a serving cell operating on a first frequency, an indication that synchronization signal block (SSB) indexes of a target cell operating on a second frequency can be derived from timing of the serving cell; and deriving an SSB index of the target cell, based on the timing of the serving cell.

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may transmit a monitoring signal associated with one or more antennas. Techniques for blockage sensor assisted beam management

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A network entity may transmit a reference signal to a user equipment (UE). The UE may measure, during a first time period and according to a first periodicity, the reference signal using a first beam associated with cell search. The UE may determine that a movement of the UE satisfies a movement threshold value based on an indication from a motion sensor. Additionally, the UE may determine that a channel metric fails to satisfy a threshold. In response, the UE may measure, during a second time period, the reference signal using the first beam according to a second periodicity that is greater than the first periodicity and corresponds to a more frequent measurement of the reference signal using the first beam than the first periodicity.

Techniques for sensor-assisted cell search management

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may be configured to select a set of beams to generate energy in a first coverage region (e.g., an out-of-coverage (OOC) region) to reduce the effects of a distorted electric field. The UE may select the set of beams based on gain parameters associated with a set of antennas at the UE, where the gain parameters are determined for communications in a second coverage region (e.g., an in-coverage (INC) region). In some examples, the UE may use iterative techniques to select the beams. In some examples, the UE may select the set of beams based on calculations using a set of codebook beams associated with the second coverage region. In some examples, the UE may additionally select the set of beams for communications in the second coverage region.
