A water-based inkjet ink composition comprising composite resin fine particles composed of a first resin and a second resin, and having an SP value of from 9.0 to 12.0 (cal/cm), wherein the SP value of the second resin is higher than the SP value of the first resin, and the first resin has a higher mass than the second resin.

Disclosed is an ink composition for ink jet recording that can realize excellent printing quality on various recording media, has a high level of color developing properties particularly on plain paper, and can realize excellent gloss for glossy paper and, at the same time, is excellent in ink reliability such as ejection stability, storage stability, and recovery from clogging. The ink composition includes at least a magenta solid solution pigment, a polymer, which can render the pigment dispersible in the ink composition, and water. The polymer is produced by copolymerizing a monomer composition including at least a styrene macromer (A) and a salt forming group-containing monomer (B).

An ink jet recording aqueous pigment ink contains a self-dispersing pigment, a quaternary amino acid, a non-polymeric, nonionic material having a melting point of 40&#xb0; C. or more, and at least one of trialkylamine and trialkanolamine. The content of the non-polymeric, nonionic material is 3% to 15% by mass relative to the total mass of the ink jet recording aqueous pigment ink.

Provided is a black ink composition containing a pigment, wherein the value calculated from the average particle diameter and the particle size distribution width of the pigment and the ink viscosity is regulated within a certain range, and the number of coarse particles contained in the ink composition is regulated to a certain value or less. The ink composition is excellent in ink storage stability and can give an image realized with good balance between color development, in particular, in high-speed printing and inhibition of a time-dependent change in printing density due to pigment sedimentation.

Black ink composition

An ink composition comprises a pigment coated with a water-insoluble polymer as a coloring material, a resin emulsion as an additive, water, and a water-soluble organic compound. The weight average molecular weight of the water-insoluble polymer is from 50,000 to 150,000. The resin emulsion comprises a resin comprising a monomer component of the same kind as the monomer component constituting the water-insoluble polymer and has a weight average molecular weight of 1.5 to 4 times that of the water-insoluble polymer. The average particle size of the resin emulsion is from 20 to 200 nm, and the average particle size of pigment particles in the ink composition ranges from 50 to 150 nm.

An ink composition includes at least a pigment, a humectant, and water in from 10 to 60% by weight to the total amount of ink. The humectant is a mixture of (A) at least one compound selected from glycerin, 1,2,6-hexanetriol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, tetraethylene glycol, and dipropylene glycol; (B) either trimethylol propane or trimethylol ethane, or a mixture thereof; and (C) at least one compound selected from betaines, saccharides, and ureas and having a molecular weight in the range of from 100 to 200, at a content weight ratio of (A):(B):(C) of 1.0:0.1 to 1.0:1.0 to 3.5.

An ink set for ink jet recording that realizes a satisfactory image in addition to high color-developing ability, high ejection stability, and high recover ability from clogging is provided. An ink set contains two or more ink compositions at least including a black ink composition and a color ink composition. The black ink composition includes a self-dispersing pigment having a hydrophilic group on the surface thereof and the color ink composition includes a self-dispersing pigment having a hydrophilic group on the surface thereof with a phenyl group interposed therebetween. The ink set is used for an ink jet recording method.
