Methods and systems are provided for a dry silicone gel. The dry silicone gel comprises a base polymer having a vinylsilicone group, a crosslinker, and a chain extender. The dry silicone gel may be made by reacting (a) a first set of components comprising a base polymer having a vinylsilicone group and an addition cure catalyst with (b) a second set of components comprising a crosslinker, a chain extender, and additional base polymer. In certain circumstances, the base polymer and additional base polymer are vinyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane.

A compressible element for a sensor assembly includes an elastomer matrix having a first compressibility and a plurality of closed areas distributed within the elastomer matrix and each surrounded by the elastomer matrix. Methods and systems are provided for a dry silicone gel in a closure or interconnect system. The dry silicone gel may be made by reacting a crosslinker, a chain extender, and a vinyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane. The reaction may be conducted in the presence of a catalyst. In certain embodiments, the dry silicone gel may comprise: (1) a hardness between 100 g and 300 g, (2) a stress relaxation between 30% and 60% when subjected to a deformation of 50% of the original size of the gel, (3) a compression set between 4% and 20% after 50% strain has been applied to the gel for 1000 hours at 70&#xb0; C., and/or (4) less than 10% oil bleed out under compression of 1.2 atm after 60 days at 60&#xb0; C.

Closure and interconnect systems and methods of using dry silicone gels in closure and interconnect systems

A sealing system for an acoustic touchscreen includes an elongate gel body between the touchscreen and the bezel of a housing onto which the touchscreen is mounted. The elongate gel body forms a seal around the perimeter of the touch-sensitive area of the touchscreen. A stop element controls and limits the amount of compression of the elongate gel body. The resulting seal is highly effective in protecting the unexposed parts of the touchscreen (i.e., areas other than the touch-sensitive area) from contaminants, especially liquid contaminants, at the cost of an acceptably low loss in acoustic signal strength.

A gel material is expanded by first subjecting mixture of a gel precursor material and heat-expandable microspheres to a curing regimen which cures the precursor material into a gel material without expanding the microspheres and then heating to expand the gel material containing the microspheres. In this manner, an intermediate product in the form of a gel which is more handleable than the typically syrupy precursor material is produced. This intermediate product can be manipulated and placed at the intended application location and then expanded.

The socket and plug assembly includes a socket 100 containing an electrical conductor 85 and adapted to insertably receive a plug 90, an environmental sealant 140 at least partially filling the socket so that the sealant is at least partially displaced from the socket when the plug is inserted into the socket, and an elastomeric containment means 40 having an inset dimple 50 for being outwardly deflected to contain displaced sealant when the plug is inserted into the socket and to urge the sealant back into the socket when the plug is removed.

A modular, re-enterable telecommunications terminal (50), for making and breaking connections with insulated wire conductors, includes one or more base frames (52) supporting wire termination modules (55, 56) thereon, and a multi-pin socket (60) thereon is connected to another base froze (52) by one or more bridging modules (100). The termination modules (55, 56) are manually operable for terminating wires in insulation displacing connectors (70, 85), and are selected and positioned according to the type of terminations desired. Manually pushing and pulling the termination module drivers (65, 80) toward and away from the base frames (52) effects movement of the wires between connected and open positions.
