At each of n shooting (or capturing) points, a natural scene is captured for a period of time t,(N), where N&equals;1 to n, using one or more video cameras held at rest, and it is then converted into each of a plurality of stationary-viewpoint images. Furthermore, on the way from the (N&minus;1)th shooting point to the Nth (N&equals;2 to n) shooting point, a natural scene is captured for a period of time t,(N), where N&equals;2 to n, using the video cameras being moved and it is then converted into each of a plurality of moving-viewpoint images. In order to provide a virtual reality environment for a user, the plurality of stationary-viewpoint images and the plurality of moving-viewpoint images are reproduced in turn according to user's movements detected.

A wellness system comprises an exercise load providing unit for providing a load of a physical exercise for a user, and for measuring a movement of the user who is doing the physical exercise, a virtual reality environment providing unit for providing the user with a virtual reality environment that can cause user's plural senses such as the sense of sight, hearing, touch, and smell to work, according to the contents of the virtual reality environment, and a control unit for controlling the virtual reality environment provided by the virtual reality environment providing unit according to the user's movement measured by the exercise load providing unit. A medical support system includes a patient-side system including patient shooting devices for photographing a patient's body and forming respective images displaying respective parts of the patient's body; a medical-side system located at a position spaced away from the patient-side system and including an image synthesizer for splicing together, at boundary portions, respective adjacent images of the patient's body to produce a composite image displaying an area of the patient's body extending across the respective images, and a display for displaying the composite image produced by the image synthesizer; and a communication link for transmitting information between the medical-side system and the patient-side system and for transferring the images produced by the patient shooting devices to the medical-side system.

An apparatus for monitoring mental tension comprises a first measuring unit for measuring a periodic wave related to a contraction activity of the heart of a person to be monitored; a detecting unit for detecting special waves which periodically appear in the periodic wave measured by the first measuring unit; a second measuring unit for measuring the interval at which the special wave are generated; a first processor for providing, as tension index values, a mean value of an interval train of the special waves and the magnitude of a respiration component of the fluctuation of the interval train; and a display unit for displaying the resulting tension index values.
