An image provision device that provides an image exhibiting a distinctive feature of a locality to an address. On receipt from a mobile telephone () of a position information mail () storing position information of the mobile telephone (), the image provision device transmits to the mobile telephone () a reply mail () storing thumbnail images created based on the position information in the position information mail (). Then, on receipt from the mobile telephone () of an image select mail () storing a selection resulting from one thumbnail image from the thumbnail images being selected, the image provision device transmits to the address an image mail () storing an image based on the selection result in the image select mail ().

Image providing apparatus and image providing system

A cellular telephone () that searches for a destination base station in accordance with a handoff instruction receives a soft handoff instruction or a hard handoff that is able to specify a first search window size. When the hard handoff instruction is received, a search block () is controlled so that a window control block () searches for pilot signals from neighboring base stations using a search window having a size larger than one of the first search window size and a third search window size that is used when the soft handoff instruction is received.

The subject to be compared is the only stored message having the same checksum as that for the received message, and the messages are compared. When the messages are same, the received message is stored in the nonvolatile memory by overwrite. As a result, a check for a message duplicate can be performed within a shorter period of time.

If the strength of the signal transmitted from a remaining base station is larger than that from the active base station, the search control unitshifts to the confirmation mode, where the remaining base station is designated as a confirmation target remaining base station. Then, if the strength of the signal transmitted from the confirmation target remaining base station is larger than that from the active base station, a counter is incremented. If the counter value becomes a predetermined value R, a hand-off is performed to the remaining base station. In case that the strength of the signal transmitted from the confirmation target remaining base station becomes not larger than that from the active base station, the confirmation mode is terminated at that point to return to the normal mode.
